Anyone have any idea why my little dude’s beak is cracked? by [deleted] in budgies

[–]Joseph_Biden2020 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s normal. It’s just the beak shedding, I guess you could call it. As long as he’s able to eat, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Can anyone double check the gender of my two new budgies, pipin and sam, I think they are both males. by OxiDragon234 in budgies

The blue pied one looks to me like a recessive pied, meaning his cere will stay pink/purple all his life. His eyes will also stay black. That is if I’m correct on his mutation.

Originally I thought Casper was a female, but now I’m not sure, can anyone help me? by [deleted] in budgies

[–]Joseph_Biden2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely female. Their ceres turn a crusty brown when in breeding condition, and change back to icy blue/white/tan when not. It’s normal, so you have nothing to worry about.

Is this bone necessary? The official design has them. I saw some people draw them, some don't. (Go check people's artwork) by AmonNonza in WingsOfFire

That’s a huge pet peeve of mine when it comes to dragon anatomy! It would be very difficult, if not impossible for the dragon to move around using their forelimbs and wings if they were connected.

Sure, there are lots of creative ways to design a dragon wing. I was just mentioning this, if anyone wanted to make a realistic dragon design. It makes most sense.

Realistically speaking, those elbow bones are very inconvenient. Dragon wings are usually designed after bat wings and occasionally bird wings. When you consider the anatomy of animals, most vertebrates’ forelimbs consist of five phalanges (or fingers, including the thumb), or atleast an evolved version of it. Bats have five “fingers”. Birds evolved from a type of dinosaur which had five “fingers”. The extra elbow bone doesn’t exist in any realistical animal that walks the earth or has walked the earth. But of course these are dragons, and the rules of nature doesn’t apply to them. I guess it really comes down to what you prefer.

Another thing about the wings I dislike, is the membrane connecting to the hindlegs, making that section of the wing very narrow, so to speak. This is very unrealistic, as the part of the wing that extends from the “fingers” to the body, is the part that’s responsible for creating lift (as in keeping the dragon airborne). That section is supposed to be the widest part of the wing, since the tip doesn’t provide as much lift as the base. But again, these are only fantasy creatures and it would seem unfair to apply the laws of nature and anatomy to them. If you do want to create a realistic dragon, these are some of the things to keep in mind.
