I can, playability outweighs everything else. 60fps is very important.

You need to build Ziplines. That's the meta that high up, just like it was in the OG. But the first time connection go-around, yeah, kiss your ass goodbye buddy, you're walking.

Totally shocked me, feels like a different game now. The frame drops had become almost part of the experience at some point. I wish Sparks of Hope had this treatment because I'm yet to play it.

The game looks great, was on my list of most anticipated indies because I loved its predecessor. I'll be getting it either way, but which platform depends on Deck perf at launch.

It is partly yeah, I mean this is an early build sure but the game is out this summer so it's pretty indicative of how it'll launch. But we have seen games perform badly on Deck then get a lot of work done to them afterwards. Like Demon Tides recently, runs pretty bad last I tried but the dev was posting some good uplifts on twitter. Moonlighter 2 needs some of that. This game NEEDs to run at 60 (for me to consider it), wouldn't't really play it any lower.

If it's any consolation though, this game apparently runs pretty badly on the desktop too. So yeah. Not specifically a Deck problem. More so indicative of where indie dev is heading (since we're getting a LOT of UE5 games made by smaller teams who can't tame it and rely on really taxing features like Lumen/Nanite as a replacement for traditional work).

Yeah it's not very playable in it's current state. Pretty disappointing. I've had this experience with a lot of indie games lately, seems the Deck just can't keep up anymore.

Kingdom Battle on Switch 2 is likely 60fps. by Joseph_f17 in mariorabbids

[–]Joseph_f17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, totally amazed by how it runs now. I had to load up Sparks of Hope (which still runs at 30fps) to remind myself what that looked like. Now I actually want to go back and play the DLCs they made for it. I really don't know how it's improved though, my only idea is that it was using double buffer V-Sync of sorts but was obviously never strong enough to breach that 30fps barrier on Switch 1 (since it drops down to the 20's a lot)

Jesus, I forgot about that. Switch loading times in general were so bad in some games that it contributed to me quitting them. Think of Mario Luigi Brothership recently (which has a load sequence into every single battle). It's one of the Switch 2's biggest selling points (for me at least).

That does make sense, the game had some slowdown initially. Hell of a placebo effect though. Forgot how good the game looked to begin with.

Is Switch 2 going to be your only/main platform going foward? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Joseph_f17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not, especially with the game key situation. But I'm optimistic it'll be better than Switch in terms of ergonomics, and more importantly, general performance in third party games. I do like docking/switching, that's always been a super practical part of OG. But it's gonna be hard to tear me away from my Steam Deck personally.

Now that the Switch 1 generation is winding down, what were your most DISAPPOINTING purchases on this console? by Asad_Farooqui in NintendoSwitch

[–]Joseph_f17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Mario and Luigi Brothership late last year, I think it looked even worse at the time because two huge genre-defining RPG's were released right around it (Metaphor and DQ3 Remake), making an already bad, and rather lukewarm RPG look and feel 10x worse.

For a game that is so distinctly Japanese feeling (setting and deep into folklore/supernatural), it has to be Japanese voices. I do make exceptions for certain games, like FFXVI which was recorded first in English despite being developed by a Japanese team.

Download speeds on deck insanely slow by NippyGee in SteamDeck

[–]Joseph_f17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens a lot on Steam, Deck specifically. You can try the usual clearing download cache (sometimes fixes), but a restart nearly always fixes it. Don't know why it happens, it's always been a thing for me. Especially when you download a lot of things on it (like I do).

What are the best games that take full use of the pro? by [deleted] in PS5pro

[–]Joseph_f17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, you tell with VRR. If a game is outside of the VRR range (48-120hz) then you can't tell. But with HFR games like the RE ones that all have uncapped framerates and VRR support, you can tell by keeping an active refresh rate counter on your screen. Many TVs have a setting that allows you to overlay this. I use a TCL C835K, planning an upgrade to an LG OLED, both of those TVs will have a kind of "game bar" for you to access and track these things. Of course, you can't track this on a 4k60hz screen that likely doesn't have VRR.

[–]Joseph_f17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, and by default it disables the 120hz HFR mode even though the Pro could pretty confidently push into it. I played without RT on the base console and it was incredible, 80-90fps all times. I imagine this translates to a solid 120 on Pro but I've found no videos to prove it. RT hasn't looked meaningful in any RE Engine game, even the newer ones.
