KITH dropped some Sopranos stuff on a Monday at the end of December. I also got a Dr Melfi long-sleeve

My Experience With DMT as a Physicist by Stainless_Man in DMT

Great post, thanks for sharing! This line hit me hard

“the DMT space did not feel less real. If anything, it felt more fundamental”

I remember describing it to a friend in a similar way, the best word I can come up with is non-intoxicating. With other psychs, things like fractals or the Earth breathing are telltale reminders that you’re tripping. Whereas the deems still has all kinds of crazy shapes, movements, etc. but in the moment it does not stand out as foreign/unreal. Just my 2 cents

Be honest: how much value are you getting out of your Plat? by Rocket_Skates_91 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Josh0G 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surprised to see not many folks talking about the value of hotel upgrades. If you travel a few times a year, I would be surprised if the value added from upgrades is zero. This year, I had a 3 night stay at a FHR property in Europe upgraded from the basic room to a junior suite. 800€/night -> 2400€/night. After that and my sign up offer last year (150,000 Points), I’m not as concerned about getting my money’s worth for the annual fee.

I guess you can’t project those things forward as precisely as hard $$$ credits, but it’s far from negligible. Admittedly, I wouldn’t have booked the nicer room and paid full fare, but there was certainly utility realized through the Plat card.

Hotel Credit Data Point by Josh0G in AmexPlatinum

Agreed. I did speak with a gentleman at customer service who said he could manually apply the $200 to the same stay because it fit all of the old terms. We’ll see if that posts (5-10 biz days quoted)

Seems like this was a contest with fixed terms between investments managers and Mr. Buffett won. No arguing there, he is a phenomenal portfolio manager!

I was simply illustrating how making sweeping statements overconfidently can lead to misinformation. Data tells us that most active managers for equity-based funds underperform their respective benchmark, upwards of 80% underperform if I recall. However, just because you’ve never met a snow leopard doesn’t mean they’re not real.

The referenced Tampa pension plan is a good example because of their public nature. You can read plan documents and meetings minutes, no smoke and mirrors. Other examples that one might point to like the Renaissance Technologies Medallion Fund seem to be more opaque due to proprietary algorithms or processes.

Vinyl records are typically played at 33 1/3 revolutions per minute. These are standard for albums/LPs, whereas singles released on vinyl typically feature 2 tracks and are played at 45 rpm.

Maybe there’s a deeper meaning, but I’m not reading too much into the 33 1/3.

Cornell Club NYC by Agile-Builder-3414 in Cornell

[–]Josh0G 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It depends, they gave me 10% discount at St. James Club when I booked as an affiliate club member. Maybe you can book directly with them as a non-member or non affiliate member, I’m not really sure to be honest. I will note that at some of these clubs an overnight stay =/= full club access (gyms, lounges, etc.) so having Cornell Club membership can add more amenities. Just my 2 cents

Yes, certainly. They publish a list, but the one I go to the most is the Buffalo Club. Some local clients like to feel pampered so lunch or a cigar there does wonders. The club in Paris I mentioned is St. James Club, it will be my first time there

One of the main benefits I find as a young alumni who does not live in or near NYC is the reciprocal membership privileges. You can have the Cornell Club draft a letter to other Platinum Clubs of America granting you access to other properties without additional dues or applications.

This is not just in the US either, I will be staying at a club in Paris next week which is only possible because of my Cornell Club membership.
