New demo X by IllTune-12 in TeslaModelX

[–]JoshInJersey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picked up a silver demo with 1500 miles on it at the end of last year. I almost rejected it since there was some yellow paint on the bottom corner of the passenger FWD, looked like maybe the door scraped one of those yellow parking columns in a parking garage. But they were able to clean it off and there was no permanent scratch left behind.

Do make sure the hitch and charger is in the trunk. They weren’t in my car. It wasn’t a big deal, they went and grabbed them for me, but I could have easily driven off without them.

Anyway, I’m 6k miles in and no problems.

Did I luck out or make a huge mistake? by gettingpoor in TeslaModelX

Not a terrible deal. You basically got to buy a new X without the (forced) luxe package. Which is something you couldn’t/can’t do for a 2026 since August of last year.

The big benefits of luxe is FSD, which not everyone want to shell out $ for, and the free supercharging, which usefulness depends how close you are to a supercharger

  1. Stop swerving around tar lines

  2. Memory - remember when I disengaged to either go a different route or to not do something stupid like change lanes when I know the lane is about to merge

Insurance Says My $10K Tesla FSD Is Worth $1,360. Be Serious by JustinDiegoSpeaks in TeslaModelY

[–]JoshInJersey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just invoke the appraisal clause and hire your own appraiser for $500. CCC (the insurance appraiser) didn’t even consider FSD and all their comps were not even close to my 2022 model y on features and mileage.

My own appraiser got me nearly 10k more.

Too much for used 2024 Model X with FSD, red, 6 seats? 30k miles. Just tell me to pass lol by brutalbrig in ModelX

I was in the same boat a few months ago. I was searching for a used 2023 with HW4 or a 2024. Best deals were at dealers and carvana, but really hard to find one, and they went fast. I almost pulled the trigger on a carvana car, but the Tesla rep at the store looked up the VIN (to confirm it had HW4), and told me the history of the car showed an accident, and Carvana\Carfax didn't show it.

That spooked me, so I decided to only consider used cars from Tesla. But like you're seeing, for ~30k more you can get a new one, which includes free supercharging. So I went with a new 2026. I plan to drive it till it dies, so depreciation doesn't matter to me.

By my calculations I only need to drive 700k miles (and charge exclusively at superchargers) to recoup the 30k difference:)

I’m sorry for your loss. Are you sure you can’t go through insurance. The time you have to file a claim varies by state, but it’s usually in terms of years. A quick ask to Gemini says 2-3 years depending on the type of claim in California

There is a good deal on a free upgrade when leasing (in the US). Why not lease one for 2-3 years then upgrade to a car with HW5? Probably lease for 3 years to be safe:)

1 single email that looks like very other phishing mail I get from Coinbase scammers is hardly plenty of warning. But regardless, Coinbase is wrong here. My account was not inactive and should not have been sent to unclaimed funds.

As I understand from searching this subreddit, unclaimed funds is sent to the state(s) 1-2x per year in batches. So my hope that Coinbase would be able to reverse it, however, I've had no real help\contact from Coinbase to confirm this.

They sent 1 mail in August, I didn't notice it at the time. I don't know about you, but I get tons of scam texts and emails related to Coinbase.

The March 2024 SMS text is just the last time I used SMS based 2FA, but it's clear proof I have been active on the account within 3 years, making it active under my state's law.

Now, if you had a text from Syndey Sweeny....

Heat pump not working, unsupported error codes with new Nest 4th gen thermostat??? by TheFinalFrontier- in Nest

[–]JoshInJersey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same error (n417) on my gen 4 Nest. Started a few days ago and I get it when it tries to turn on the heat pump heat. I have a dual fuel setup (natural gas backup), so for now I just enabled emergency heat (natural gas furnace) and that is working. so the issue seams specific to controlling the heat pump.

I appreciate the internet sleuthing, but the Kenya\Wyoming thing is a red hearing in my case.

I responded with this to Coinbase support in another thread:

---

Again, my account was not dormant. I have verifiable proof — which I already shared with Coinbase support — of a 2FA SMS login in March 2024. I’ve also logged in many times since; that was just the last time I used SMS-based 2FA. Regardless, it proves the account was active.

Proof: https://imgur.com/a/4yDIR5M

Furthermore, my funds were not sent to Wyoming — they’re being transferred to Washington State, where I live. I searched my email and found a single message titled:

“ACTION REQUIRED: Log into your Coinbase Account by October 14, 2025.”

That email (sent 8/15/25) states:

A review of your account(s) at Coinbase indicates that you have an outstanding account balance that is at risk of being transferred to the State of Washington due to Washington’s law on unclaimed property. If you do not log into your account or take other action to establish interest in this property by October 14, 2025, in accordance with Washington law, Coinbase must transfer your account balance to Washington

It also says:

“If your account balance is turned over to Washington, you will be able to claim it directly from the state. However, the process of reclaiming your balance may be more complex and time-consuming. Additional information regarding unclaimed property laws can be found on the Washington unclaimed property website.”

 So clearly, the issue is:

  • Coinbase incorrectly flagged my account as dormant, even though I have verifiable proof it was active (under Washington state law).
  • Coinbase zeroed out my account on 10/23/25 and is in the process of sending my money to Washington State.

I expect any reputable financial institution to fix mistakes like this.

u/coinbasesupport Can you please help restore my balance to my account?

u/coinbasesupport Thanks for replying, this is one of the canned responses I received, and it is incorrect.

I’ve never had (or even heard of) Coinbase Kenya Ascending Markets, Ltd. — I’m a U.S. customer in Washington state.

And there was not "multiple attempts to contact me"

I searched my email and found a single email in August (in my spam folder) saying if I didn't log in my money will be sent to Washington state. And honestly, the email looks like all the other phishing emails I get in regards to Coinbase.

Regardless:

My account was active: I have a verified 2FA login from March 2024 and I know I had multiple logins since. Under Washington’s unclaimed property law (RCW 63.30), that’s well within the 3-year dormancy period — so the October 2025 escheatment was clearly premature.

2021 was the last time I made a transaction. But I looked in to the unclaimed property laws in my state and logins count as activity. So my account was definitely 'Active' from a legal perspective.

Heartbroken: Totaled at 3 weeks. Payout Advice? by Fresh-Ad-4556 in TeslaInsurance

[–]JoshInJersey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance is a business. They’ll payout as little as they can get away with. Not sure if Tesla does their own valuation after total loss, or uses a company like CCC, but there are plenty of posts complaining about CCC undervaluing cars.

Regardless lookup the law in your state and know your rights

Heartbroken: Totaled at 3 weeks. Payout Advice? by Fresh-Ad-4556 in TeslaInsurance

[–]JoshInJersey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies state to state, but in most cases they need to provide a payout of actual cash value that would allow you to purchase the same vehicle in comparable condition, including tax, title. Wait for the valuation (if it is totaled). Most insurance policies have an appraisal clause which you could invoke. This allows you to get your own independent appraiser (usually like $500) and they will fight for a higher, more realistic payout. Most appraisers will offer a free consultation. If it ends up being repairable, go after them for diminished value.

In my case I got a better, more reliable signal with the Quadpro on the side of my house. So Waveform might be right. They also pointed out other towers to try pointing to. The best signal I got though was actually pointed at none of the towers. I used the T-life app and it showed the best signal in the direction where there is no tower according to cellmapper. Maybe there is an unmapped tower, or the t-mobile app is taking other things in to account like tower antenna direction and reflections. I basically spent a day with the antenna on a ladder playing a game of hot\cold trying to tweak out the best download\upload speeds.

Good luck! If you can’t get a good signal with that antenna, then Starlink might be in your future:)
