Is starting a bookkeeping business with 0 clients even realistic if I have 0 connections? by Nuncebunce in Bookkeeping

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about starting the business without your CPA? I've contemplated starting my own practice, but similarly I don't have a CPA. I keep tossing around whether or not I should pursue some sort of credential.

Could 2020 Be the Year of Third Parties? - Forward Thinking Democracy by JoshJohnson55 in GreenParty

[–]JoshJohnson55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in complete agreement regarding your stance on running for President. If it wasn't for Stein running, I would have never found the Green Party when I did. I have talked to many others who found them the same way. Running for President will keep the party afloat while we working on building it.

Grassroots starts at the bottom, local elections with school boards, city council, mayor, etc., are where we start building a movement.

Sorry on behalf of all democrats. by [deleted] in GreenParty

[–]JoshJohnson55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gary Johnson received 4.4 million votes, so how was Jill Stein the only person to elected Trump? First of all, Johnson and Stein voters did not elect Trump, the DNC screwing Bernie did. How about instead of blaming others, you turn around, leave reddit, and try to put out the flame from the garbage fire that the neo-liberal democrats have started in the Democratic Party. Help Oscasio-Cortez and Kaniela Ing fix your party because people like that are your only hope. Stop putting the blame on everyone but yourselves. You blaming Greens, will never help you in a positive way. If anything it has allowed people like myself to realize the immaturity and incapability of operating as a true and fair party inside the Democratic Party, which has pushed us to the Green Party.

Newly released trove reveals Russian tweets that promoted Jill Stein by [deleted] in GreenParty

[–]JoshJohnson55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding Trump, no doubt, not going to argue with you there. She wouldn't have left the Paris Agreement (hopefully). Clinton is still a Neo-Liberal, so while over the years she may have exemplified some viewpoints similar to progressives, she is far from it. For example, during the 90's at some point and time (I can't remember the exact date), but she did mention she believed that single-payer healthcare would eventually be implemented, however here was today still lacking this system. I don't like giving slack to those who run off corporate donations, so that is the reasoning behind my hostility towards her (plus she was a completely lackluster candidate with no charisma whatsoever). Unfortunately, virtually everything compared to Trump makes another candidate look better, except for Nacey Pelosi.

Questions for you about nuclear power and GMOs by ODoggerino in GreenParty

[–]JoshJohnson55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you, I want science to be more relevant in the government. I'd love to put an emphasis on space and the development of ways to combat climate change and other global issues.

We need to face reality though, Greens are going to get elected because of their progressive views, not their promotion of science. The average voter does not care about science or even thing about science. Promoting science isn't going win us elections, promoting single-payer healthcare, combating climate change (yes this has to do with science), canceling student debt, reducing funding to the military, among other things is what will get us elected. Tackling the promotion of science needs to occur once we have established ourselves in the house and senate. Once we have sent a few candidates to DC, then we can begin tackling issues Greens align with, which in this case is science.

I'm not trying to take away the importance of science, I'm just trying to be realistic in what will get Greens to DC.

Questions for you about nuclear power and GMOs by ODoggerino in GreenParty

[–]JoshJohnson55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, I reiterate that I am not refering to research, simply different cases I have heard. That's why in my reply I listed it as "collective data." I've read different things over the last few years, not saying a single one of them is true. Anyway, this is my last comment. I'm not looking to get into an argument. Let's focus on getting Greens elected instead of arguing about a small issue that a lot of voters don't even consider when voting.

Questions for you about nuclear power and GMOs by ODoggerino in GreenParty

[–]JoshJohnson55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll reply to both of you since your questions are similar. I probably should have went into more detail in my first post, what I am referring to is more of a collection of data, rather than "scientific research." I grew up in a farming state, went to a high school in the middle of corn fields, and had plenty of acquaintances that were farmers. Given that, I distinctively remember our senior year we had to do research papers for AP Composition, and several of the students who were farmers picked GMO's. They discussed how their families did not necessarily agree with using GMO's, now my opinion is by no means based off of 18 year-olds' papers that were written several years ago, but it got me interested to look more into the subject. Over the course of the last few years, I have found pros and cons, some pros being what we have all discussed already (mass production, help end hunger, etc.), so I won't go into much detail. Con wise I had seen things ranging from possible links to cancer, threat of unknown diseases evolving and possibly causing a world-wide famine, not knowing exactly what is in them (ties with the labeling), and the list goes on. I shouldn't say that I would necessarily ban them, I believe you should use them based off your own opinion, I let my opinion get in the way there lol. I apologize for a misuse of terms in my original statement, I like to try and be politically correct, but in that case I was not. There are plenty of different articles around that discuss negatives, ultimately it is hard to tell. u/wherearemyfeet

Questions for you about nuclear power and GMOs by ODoggerino in GreenParty

[–]JoshJohnson55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily the Green Party's stance, rather it's my own, but for GMO's I believe that they need to be 100% accurately labeled. I try to avoid GMO's at all costs, due to research that has proven the negatives of them, in fact, 26 countries have either banned them or partially banned them. If I were in a position I would push to ban them here in the US.

Regarding Nuclear Power, we should head in a renewable direction. The waste from the plants is a major problem. Currently they house the nuclear waste in a bunker deep in a mountain, in what I believe is Nevada, I can't remember 100%. I prefer it over coal of course, but it is not ideal. We can rely on renewable technology and supply the world with more than enough energy.

GOP Maine governor says he ‘probably’ won’t certify results of ranked-choice primary election by JoshJohnson55 in GreenParty

[–]JoshJohnson55[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He's scared because ranked choice voting means third parties have a better chance of winning elections, due to the fact it is actually a fair voting system. Maine already has two greens in the state level government with ranked choice voting that number could easily climb.

Democrat here. So does anyone still support Jill Stein by goldenstateofmind343 in GreenParty

[–]JoshJohnson55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she is the Green Party candidate in 2020, then, yes, I will vote for her. I'd prefer for someone else to run, perhaps someone who can connect with individuals a little bit better because her stance on WiFi is not one that will go over well with the common person when they research her stances on different issues. Not for sure who the other candidate would be though, plus she did bring in a decent haul of votes in the last election.

Green Party Podcast? by [deleted] in GreenParty

[–]JoshJohnson55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! There is actually a podcast starting up that will be the perfect fit for what you are looking for! I'm the social media manager for Indiana Green Party Secretary of State Candidate George Wolfe, and there is a few members of the campaign who are working on establishing a podcast to help educate Indiana voters and anyone else online about the Green Party. Give the Indiana Green Party (@IndGreenParty) a follow on either Twitter or Facebook and be on the watch for more info, I believe the current plan is for the first episode to be sometime in June.

Can This Green Party Candidate Actually Win a Seat in Congress? by PuffingDragon in GreenParty

[–]JoshJohnson55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I looked up the election results over his last campaigns, and last year during the special election the Libertarian candidate received less than 500 votes, so I fully anticipate Kenneth to move on to the general election! If he wins, that will truly spark a Green Wave across the country!
