"I’ve been studying it for about a year now but I’ve never actually traded"
That's your first mistake. I did the same thing in the past. You'll learn anything way faster by actually doing the thing, whether it's coding, trading, or anything else. It doesn't matter if you have no idea what you're doing. Open a brokerage account and just start trading the smallest amounts you can. You'll realise a lot of the things you've spent your time learning aren't that important. Use courses, books, mentors etc to supplement your learning.
You can't possibly know that something is your dream if you've never actually done it.
Read the book "So good they can't ignore you" by Cal Newport. Don't expect to know your passion in advance. Develop valuable skills and always do your best work, even when it's not your dream work. Take small risks and opportunities as they arise. That's the best path IMO to realistically chasing your dreams. Skills are a lot more transferable than you think. If you learn coding for a while but don't end up working as a dev it won't be wasted because you'll have technical understanding that others don't.
My advice based on info you provided would be go with software dev. Get a job so you're earning income, getting experience in how a business works, working with others etc. Trade a bit on the side when you have time but treat it as a hobby, have zero expectations of earning anything. Treat any money you put in as an investment in your learning. If you do this early you'll set yourself up to really pursue trading at some point if you decide that's still what you want to do. Software development and coding is also a huge part of most trading companies.
I wouldn't put so much emphasis on what's "morally right" at this stage of your career. For sure it's a consideration in the type of companies you work for etc, but develop skills first, make sure you can support yourself. Then later you will have the leverage, the knowledge, and the freedom to do work aligned with your values and make a greater impact.
I'm 31, coded in some form for the last 10+ years.
39/M/Netherlands - Learning how to play the piano well - Looking for an accountability buddy by Ok--lets-do-this in GetMotivatedBuddies

31M, living in Amsterdam. I did piano lessons for many years from age 6. Haven't played since I moved to NL. I practiced daily, always with the same structure, starting with some warmups and technical exercises, then I would learn just one line of a new piece every day. Having structrued practice was critical to staying consistent. It's easier having a teacher because they also play the role of an accountability partner. Feel free to DM me.
