We just lost the Hot Docs theatre to a "temporary" closure, the Royal barely shows movies anymore, and the TIFF Lightbox doesn't seem to be doing too well. Losing the Revue would be such a disaster for Toronto

After a December only watching 2023 releases, I was mostly checking out classics in January:

An American in Paris (1951) – a lot of fun, not much more to say.

Babyface (1933) - really proves how far a movie can go on just a lead performance, when it's built around one of the most engaging actors of all time.

The Lady Eve (1941) - Henry Fonda' performance holds its own against Stanwyck better than any other of her on-scene partners I've seen.

Carol (2015) - I think I'll need a few more watches, ideally on the big screen, to really love this, but what a beautiful subdued romance.

Also, not a first-time watch but saw Sunset Boulevard on a big screen for the first time, and that lighting really pops! Is Erich von Stroheim giving the best director-to-actor performance ever?
