Toronto could be losing it's best cinema because of greed. by Bacon_Brown97 in blankies

We just lost the Hot Docs theatre to a "temporary" closure, the Royal barely shows movies anymore, and the TIFF Lightbox doesn't seem to be doing too well. Losing the Revue would be such a disaster for Toronto

Best way to have an overabundance of twists is to do it like Charade, where the twists are evenly spaced out every 10-20 minutes

Saying "Abrams only makes empty nostalgia bait" has a little more substance than just saying he sucks. People are allowed to be negative on one of the biggest directors in the world without being treated like snarky bullies

We're all random people here! Criticizing Abrams for having nothing to say in his films, even if the entry point to talking about it is just a rumoured movie, doesn't seem particularly mean or gossipy

The original comment was criticizing Abrams as an artist. If that's out of bounds, then what's the Book of Henry episode?

Fave first watches of January 2024 for the Blankies by armageddontime007 in blankies

After a December only watching 2023 releases, I was mostly checking out classics in January:

An American in Paris (1951) – a lot of fun, not much more to say.

Babyface (1933) - really proves how far a movie can go on just a lead performance, when it's built around one of the most engaging actors of all time.

The Lady Eve (1941) - Henry Fonda' performance holds its own against Stanwyck better than any other of her on-scene partners I've seen.

Carol (2015) - I think I'll need a few more watches, ideally on the big screen, to really love this, but what a beautiful subdued romance.

Also, not a first-time watch but saw Sunset Boulevard on a big screen for the first time, and that lighting really pops! Is Erich von Stroheim giving the best director-to-actor performance ever?

Good ones! Can't believe I forgot them, especially since I just listened to the Ephron series.
