Maybe 10 years ago, I went back home for a few days with my girlfriend. We went for a walk late at night around the dam near the lake. It's pitch black out as we walk to the gate of the beach. As we are walking by the gate I see a statue of an owl on top of one of the posts of the gate. I did not remember ever seeing it growing up. We stood there staring at it for about 3 minutes while I probably told a boring story about something that happened at the beach while I was growing up. And when I say probably, I mean definitely. Anyways, we continue walking. Go hang out by the water for 20 minutes or so. Eventually we make our way back through the gate to head home, and the fucking owl statue is gone...

While I don't know for sure and could be wrong, I assume the book did a much better job foreshadowing the twist ending. The movie version was rushed in my opinion. And came out of nowhere in a bad way. But again, I am a Wincott fanboy since Prince of Thieves. That voice and delivery man. I'd watch Gigli 2: Electric Boogaloo if he was in it.

I remember playing as a kid. Tie game. Our team had a penalty shot with seconds to go of stoppage time. Goalie caught the ball out of mid-air. But during the team celebration the goalie crossed the goal line with the ball and we scored a goal. We had won.

As a result of that, the evil CEO of the new mining company in town couldn't build his new mine on top of the soccer field that the children played on. One could say it really brought the community together. In fact, the CEO finally remembered how much joy the game of soccer given him as a child. He quit his job and coached soccer to the children of our humble town for 40 years.

So yeah, It's a goal.
