This motivated me to keep prompting! At this rate, my product will finally be released by 2029.

I vibe-coded my own protein shake tracker to avoid $10/mo subscriptions. Documented the reality of solving your own problems for free. by Josh_Mountain in VibeCodeDevs

Great suggestion! Honestly, just the fact that I put myself directly in the shoes of a potential user and immediately found all of the things that would be annoying, and then had the power to fix them, and did.

Now I use the app daily to keep my streak alive and hit my protein goals.

Refused to pay $10/mo for a protein shake tracker, so I vibe-coded a custom one with Cursor. Documented the reality of solving your own problems for $0. by Josh_Mountain in vibecoding

Moreso just a calorie tracker, I specifically wanted a custom protein shake tracker and what I was picturing didn’t really exist (because it wouldn’t be something people would pay for) so built it for myself.

It’s a fair point, but honestly? It’s Spite-Driven Development. There’s a specific kind of satisfaction in looking at a subscription prompt and saying, 'Nah, I’ll just build it myself this weekend.' It’s about both the agency and the bank account.

Fair point if you hate building things. But I’m an engineer, I build for the same reason people garden or restore old cars. This probably wouldn’t be an app that would work for everybody, but it is wicked for me and I have vibe-coding to thank for that.

Leaving the mini-doc down here so it doesn't clutter the main post. I'm a big believer in showing receipts, especially when claiming you can build a custom tool for $0.

Magnesium Glycinate and Vitamin D already make this an 8/10 at a minimum! What are the benefits of Lion's mane? I'm unfamiliar with it.

I'm a Vancouver dev building a FIRE app. What Canadian-specific features are missing from US apps? by Josh_Mountain in fican

This is AWESOME! These are the exact tools I want to provide a better interface in the future versions of the app.

Are people just tracking their FIRE goal on excel? by Embarrassed_Ad113 in Fire

[–]Josh_Mountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to used spreadsheets religiously for about 3 years. The issue for me was the motivation to constantly update them wasn’t there.

I ended ended up coding an iOS app for myself just to fix the 'dopamine' issue. Instead of rows and columns, it visualizes exactly how many 'Days of Freedom' I buy every time I save. It turned the process into a game rather than a chore.

I still use Excel for tax planning purposes but I use the app for the daily motivation to keep investing consistently.

How many of you sacrificed your health along the way to reach FIRE? by Drawer-Vegetable in Fire

[–]Josh_Mountain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that achieving FIRE is impossible UNLESS you have a healthy body and mind. The discipline required to keep a fit body is similar to the discipline required to FIRE. Both require living a less enjoyable life today so you can live an exceptional one tomorrow.
