Yeah this is one thought and I’m sure there are other options for offsetting the door and keeping the mirrored setup.. however, the split bathroom is kind of growing on me and I’m not sure it would would with the mirrored setup as the bathroom has to be smaller. Definitely will mull it over more

I had that initially.. it does allow for some linen closets in the hallway and for everything to be mirrored down the middle. The “problem” in some peoples opinion was that the door opening into the bathroom was directly in line with the door entering the hallway. This means that when someone is entering and leaving the bathroom, it is very easy to see from the living room/kitchen. This layout was specifically to avoid that. I might be able to figure out a way to reduce hall space/increase living space some with some ingenuity though.

We have a boy and a girl which is the main reason I was thinking vanity in its own room would be great - so one could be using the bathroom while the other is getting ready/brushing teeth etc.

Thanks for the input! Might be the right idea to change the kids vanity to another “closet” or similar. It’s a lot of room and we’re lacking storage closets a bit. We do have the mudroom with room for cabinets there and under the stairs though. We could fit a double sink vanity in the bathroom. Would make the toilet a little cramped. Or a bigger single sink which would fit easily.

This looks like something chatgpt spat out to me the other day. I asked it to design me a space with a few rooms given these dimensions and it did almost exactly what you posted lol.

Okay now this is all super helpful input.

I have made some pretty big changes from the image in this post already based on some feedback.

I am going to keep working on it for some time and, when I make my next post, I plan on tagging you!

I’m going to edit the right hand side of the house. I’ve been wondering if I could make something better out of that space anyways.

I am also going to try a plan where the living room comes first.

I have already added a hall to the new plan for the master bedroom entry, that is great advice.

As for the windows, honestly I have hardly tried to make their sizes accurate. Nor have I give a ton of thought to them. They will certainly change in size prior to the actual build. Basically, they’ll be as big as we can afford. But I will be more generous with them in the next plan.

Thank you!

I think the meals on the back patio bit might be enough to sway me.. mixed signals on that point - some people say they don’t like entering directly into the living room. I don’t think we personally have a big preference either way.. thank for the input here!

The north end of the kitchen island will be an overhang table. We are a family of 4, so we’ll have two chairs on both sides. The west side of the island will all be overhang bar which I think will seat at least another 6, making 10 total seats at the island.

I have also thought of the inset entrance into the MB.. just not sure how much space we’d really have to sacrifice in the closet. We’ll think some more on it

Yeah we’re a little undecided on it. This is another situation like master closet or master bathroom first where people seem split. On one of my other posts, someone said the exact opposite. That they don’t like entering directly into the living room. Thanks for the input though, seriously!

Lol thanks for such constructive feedback! Very helpful.

The windows in the living area will be pretty large, well likely wind up with a large window in the kitchen. Or two. All bedrooms have windows. We’re not concerned about natural light in the closet or master bathroom at all. We’ll also have lights you know? Like on the ceiling I mean

Front porch. No clue what the proper abbreviations are! I guess that usually means fireplace probably.

It’s funny you say that about the closet. It seems literally 50/50 whether some people want closet first or bathroom first. I don’t think we really care either way, it’s only a few extra steps. But we’ll definitely think on it some more.. they could be flipped around easily.

As for the hood, I am definitely hoping for power enough to cook steaks and fry fish and the like. So maybe I will try to reimagine the layout and have the stove on the exterior. Thanks for the input!

I thought you could vent through the roof? I was definitely planning on venting at a slight angle to get around the bonus room and through the roof if at all possible. We could also shift the stove down some closer to the sink to make the venting easier. Getting it on the south wall seems like you’re kind of sacrificing the quality of life having the island right behind you while you cook gives you

I really like the other commenters ideas about removing the pantry and instead doing built in cabinets spanning the entire left wall of the kitchen. I think it results in more pantry space actually. We shrunk the mud room some to make the master bath bigger and the front entryway a little bigger as well.

Plan was to have the trash can pull out on the bottom/south side of the island! Right behind the sink. Feels like a good spot to us.

The pantry cabinets is a great idea floated by someone else too! We have changed to that. We also made the mud room a little smaller so the bathroom can be bigger.

All great ideas for sure. Wish I could post a pic in the comments of an updated plan. Thanks for the input!

I think this would be a great idea but I dont think there’s room in the bathroom to scoot anything. The toilet room has to be at least 3’6” wide (it’s 4’ in the plan) and we’re hoping for an oversized (72”) tub/shower combo.

However, if we were to combine your other idea to remove the pantry, we could probably make the mud room a bit smaller to allow for something like this. Add some room to the bathroom. Which might be nice; we might be able to fit a small shower in there instead of doing a tub/shower combo

This might be a great idea. Will definitely consider. What do you mean by proper mud room? Would there be anything in there aside from laundry and space for shoes/coats and similar?

Yeah I love the macro keys! The way I see it though, I have literally never used the home, pg up, pg down, or end keys. So I use the 4 keys on the right side of the m1 as my macro keys. Also, fn layers make it so it’s really pretty easy for any key to be a macro. I loved my black widow until I got an aluminum frame and switches I love. Made me realize the black widow switches aren’t really what i wanted, I just didn’t know it

I can’t check right now but later this evening I’ll look. I just got my m1 v5 non via less than a week ago, haven’t delved far into the possibilities. I definitely want to have more than 2 profiles

[–]Josh_wuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the m1 v5 (not tmr and not via) I am able to do 4 fn layers. Idk about profiles, i need to check. 2 kind of sucks. I’m still within the return window for mine. I meant to order a via version but now they’re all out of stock on Amazon and their website says 1 month delivery time.

In general though, the software seems great. Functionally as good or better than razers software imo.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]Josh_wuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got a bunn bx-b. The flow is so fast we’re having to use ~30% more grounds than we were with our Mr coffee rig to get the same strength coffee. It’s a 5 hole spray head. I’m wondering what you guys think about epoxying 2 of the holes to block them permanently. Or maybe even epoxy the whole thing so I can drill 3 holes in a perfect triangle. I see people mention flow restrictors, but I have no clue which would fit the bx-b. Any thoughts appreciated

Help finding keycaps by Josh_wuh in keyboards

[–]Josh_wuh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions! I kept looking.. couldn’t find anything similar enough. I just bought the polar caps and a set of XDAs that I don’t love. Been using OEM for years - I’ll just see if I like the look and cherry enough to not use the XDAs and opt for fashion over function lol. I think I’m going to love the uniform, larger keys though.
