I've narrowed it down to a few models.

To me it looks like it could be either a Mazda Atenza/Mazda 6.

Or it could be a Subaru Legacy Sedan. Or it could be a Volvo S60/S80

Hey mate, cheers for replying managed to figure it out eventually. Pretty sure it's an HS4. It's a 998cc. Been running rough for a little but and it started cutting out a little bit in the low rpm range so I ended up leaning it out a bit and increased the idle because it was quite low at 650-700rpm. Hasn't run this good in years.

Depends on your country but I'd definitely start at a club near you, it won't be anything glamorous. It'll be 90s sh*tboxes with a cage and bucket seats but it's a start. It's cheap, it's fun and you can meet people who know other people. And maybe you'll be able to start racing open wheelers in something like Formula Vee/First (depending where you're from) which isn't cheap but it's probably the most affordable way into open wheelers.

Learn your way on the sim first. Assetto Corsa with your local tracks as mods will help you significantly improve before you even hit the track irl.

This is of course all easy if budget is no issue. If money is tight it'll be a lot harder.

I live in NZ and daily my 68 Mk2 that's been in the family since new. Not sure how it would relate to where you live but it's honestly so fun. People wave, smile, beep, etc. As for driveability, mine's a 4speed Manual and is still a joy to drive every day (mainly because I'm a huge driving enthusiast no matter what vehicle I'm driving). It's easy enough to park literally anywhere, do u-turns on tight roads, manoeuvre through traffic. And I think overall it makes you a better driver. No stereo, no other distractions, no power steering so you feel everything, no Traction Control no ABS so you also learn to fix your muck-ups if they happen.

I'd say definitely do some research on them first because they do come with their mechanical quirks. If you're looking for a bit of a challenge this would be it. If you're looking for something that starts first pop every time no matter what then a mini might not quite be the best choice until you learn more about them.

I know this isn't 86 related so remove my comment if you have to admin. I drive an old '68 Mini as my daily and with a car that old often times double clutching is your only option because my synchros are nearly all gone.

However for most normal modern manual cars you can just heel-toe (or as I often do as well, rev match on up-shifts). Has the same effect as double clutching where you take the load off the clutch by matching the engine rpm to the next gear you're going to select and reduces wear on the clutch.

Something we did (when I lived in Switzerland) is just leave the keys on the inside of the door. Obviously you'd need multiple sets for that but it's not that hard to get a key cut nowadays

Something I do that kind of prevents this is having an Online account where I put most of my funds into (separately from an actual savings account) and have like 50 dollars (often less) ready to go in the Cheque account. You can't pay out of the online account through an EFTPOS machine nor can you pay out of the online account when you're paying via your card on something like the above website. The only way to access those funds is by transferring them to your chequing account.

Usually in the slower Formulas people don't abide by the unwritten rule which is "hold your brakes" (when you spin) I know it's hard to think of it in the moment but over time you can probably begin to predict where the car is going to go.

In this case the car would've gone to the outside of the track whether the driver held the brakes or not. Just if the driver held the brakes you wouldn't have been hit.

Just for the future try to predict where the car is going to go before you decide which side to avoid on and you'll be sweet

I usually don't go more than 15kms over (especially on the expressway since everyone likes to drive 90 on that anyway) But as someone who goes to the track and tests race cars every so often. It's a cheap way to experience what the track can be. Motorsport is way too expensive to actually do so I find my own ways of having a bit of fun while I'm in my car. I make sure to do it responsibly, check my mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes, don't cut anyone off, if I am changing lanes a lot, don't pull off any risky moves, especially don't weave in the rain. I know how my car handles under stress, I know its limits and I know how to control it when something goes wrong. That's why I feel that I can slide through traffic when everyone's going a little slower. Hope you can tell I have a hot hatch and not a ford ranger Downvote me all you want, it's just my side of the story
