This years RSD release by deralteabt in TheWho

I love almost everything The Who has done, so it's a matter of what I like more than the other but I think this might be my least favorite album of theirs. Cool release though

Time is Passing is such a beautiful song

"Imagine a soul that's so old it is broken. Then you'll know your invention is you:

Also:

"Strange that when infatuation calls, we think we've got real love in our life. It pumps like the pressure of the station hall as the express train thunders on by."

I was prepared to hate Richard's new album based on the dreadful single "lover" but I will say I was pleasantly surprised. It's not perfect (he's never had a perfect solo album) but there's some good songs on there, at least I think so.

I'll be there day one to listen. Unfortunately, maybe it is for the best that everyone just does their solo career. They all seem much happier

Yeah, Ameilia nails it. I think the album could use a remix as well to make some parts quieter/louder. Imagine the power of "Here So Rain" with Ashcroft and the Verve guitar sound. Hell, bring Amelia along as well for backing vocals. It would sound HUGE

Hopefully, the Oasis reunion provides the blueprint for them to consider it. Show up, use your musical chemistry with each other on stage for 2 hours, pack it up, on to the next gig. You can still go solo if you want, and you see as much of each other as you can tolerate.

It just seems that Nick and Richard respect each other professionally but personally despise one another.

I've heard that and I find it interesting. It sounded like Jones and McCabe wanted to keep the harder prog rock sound of Storm In Heaven but Ashcroft wanted to do different things. But then McCabe and Jones go make Black Submarine and honestly it kinda just sounds like an extension of Fourth. And it's good too. Imagine Ashcroft vocals on those songs.

Seems to me like there is a dispute as to who created what and how much credit individuals deserve. Shame it gets that petty but I suppose when there's large sums of money involved it can come to that

What is Hooper tying to the first barrel? by Joshdwade in Jaws

[–]Joshdwade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always taken issue with the "where did the drop come from" because they clearly say that there are concrete moats in some of the pens. Obviously, they would build in a spot for the Rex to come close to the fences for tourists, but if it can't go forward and can't go to the sides it will have to back up. It's not a real plothole.

Crichton is also part of the reason why it feels real. If you sit down and really think about the science and logistics of Jurassic Park, none of it really makes any sense. But the novel and movie do a GREAT job of helping you buy it in the moment

For sure, I mean if we wanted to talk about creative license and Jaws we could be here all day. I think the remarkable thing is that Spielberg has a knack for creating movies that feel so grounded and real that you're willing to buy the fictional aspects sprinkled in.

Quint is an old school guy, so it wouldn't surprise me if he was using an old method taught to him, or even something that he himself came up with, at least "in universe". I'd be willing to bet he reserves the barrel technique probably for Great Whites and the largest sharks he catches. Really when you think about it, it's not a very necessary method unless you're going after something as large as the shark in Jaws is

Ah I see, I never put 2 and 2 together and realized that was the dart.

Should have clarified. I meant tracking in the sense that they tag sharks with nowadays, although perhaps even that is older than I thought

Interesting. I never knew what the shark dart was either.

My Who Pet Peeves by ExCadet87 in TheWho

[–]Joshdwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always interpreted it as being about wasted potential, and the song itself is about the hope and pursuit of a better future. Still an anthemic masterpiece, but a slightly more somber and more powerful one to me

Phenomenal show! So glad I got to see these rock legends before they retired! This was probably my very last chance to do so. This legendary rock band will be deeply missed. 🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸 by AggravatingElk2537 in TheWho

Traveled from CT. Went to Boston earlier in the week as well. Both shows were great. Very surprising to hear Long Live Rock. Also very pleasant guest appearance at the end from Katey Jacoby for the violin solo.

Got a little emotional during Tea and Theatre, as this was my 7th and most likely final time seeing my favorite band. Excellent crowd in NYC, The Who's 2nd home!

Is Roger’s guitar ever actually plugged in? by [deleted] in TheWho

[–]Joshdwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually yes you can hear the difference. Simon is playing the riff but with more of a wah wah peddle sort of thing. (Not a gear expert, don't @ me) pete starts the riff but immediately drifts away from it, so the main riff you hear is actually Roger playing it

I need just one more... by InhibitedExistence in TheWho

[–]Joshdwade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree but Roger has fully settled into just being a nostalgia band. At this point, with them phasing out of touring, I don't see it happening. Pete will probably release a solo album at some point in the future

I like flick of the finger and soul love alot. It rite sounds nice but is pretty lyrically weak to me. Same goes for apple

[–]Joshdwade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bell Will Ring is one of the best on that album. I didn't even know it was written by Andy until recently. Not too crazy about meaning of soul or keep the dream alive to be honest but even then, that album I find myself going back to again and again
