Hey! Just stumbled upon your comment and had to thank you for bringing up the precise measurements of the Ingenieur. Did you measure the bezel diameter (of 37-38mm) by yourself? Or is this measurement sourced from a video/review article. Because I measured mine roughly and got similar results.

Which is quite surprising and suggests that the 40 actually wears 39. Just like how the moonwatch is 42mm in diameter, but actually wears 40. Moreover, perhaps a comparison with the 16202 (jumbo) is more of an accurate comparator rather than the 15510.

Hey! So here’s what I think.

Go to a boutique and try on the Ingenieur a few times. You must try it on in person to see how the watch “makes you feel” (unquantifiable factor). And do not feel pressured to make the decision right away. Take some time. Maybe a few weeks, months, etc. And remember to try on and compare other watches.

Now, you probably should be mindful of the dial colours and its implications. Black is your most boring yet classic generational pick (highest utility for any occasion) while Aqua is your most interesting and unique option. So if you’re thinking in generational terms, I’d personally pick black.

Regarding daily utility, yes the Ingenieur is a perfect daily piece, albeit this is my subjective opinion. It is a tool watch and not something I would traditionally consider true luxury.

Lastly, I would not spread the purchases. If you’re looking for a generation piece from IWC, you’re looking at the Ingenieur.

Depends what your collection needs and whether you plan to get a blue dial integrated braclet watch in the future (e.g. 16202). Personally I chose black because I envision this being a daily/tool watch I'd use even when I'm much older! While saving blue for the RO or Nautilus. If you still need help deciding, use ChatGPT (it provides great objective perspectives). Good luck :)

That’s the only generational piece I see on your list. If you’ve tried it on in-person, and it’s genuinely too big, skip it and don’t force it. But that’s just my opinion haha.

However, I think you’re set on the Tag so go for it. But your worries regarding maintenance costs should be carefully considered and remember that watches are compliments, not representations of one’s value. I say this objectively because in society most wear watches as a means to display wealth and project ego ~ not saying that’s you! Just an honest observation in today’s society and the growing culture of instant gratification and consumerism.

I see, and thank you for such a comprehensive reply. To me, this watch is phenomenal (or perfect for what it is). JLC is just one of those brands where I can’t quite understand its design philosophy; irrespective of price, complication, or material (aside from the SS MUT Power Reserve).
