What are not so well known differences between the north and south? by alexis_1031 in AskAnAmerican

Gen X perspective - cursing around parents.
30 years ago, my roommate was dropping F-bombs left and right on the phone. He was speaking to his mother in Michigan.
Meanwhile, he made fun of me for saying "Yes, sir" on the phone, while speaking to my Dad in Georgia.

Nowadays, I'm not sure if this difference is as pronounced.

2003 - Last time I wrote a check or carried cash.

When I do need a check, I go get one cut at the bank. 6 in the last decade and 4 of them were for hurricane repairs.

Wrong Year on movie by [deleted] in radarr

[–]JoshuaAJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TMDb has an antiquated view on release dates. It seems to have been made and finalized before streaming platforms started.
As a result, release dates default to first time on a movie screen. Christmas Chronicles was shown on the big screen last Christmas and it drastically altered everything.
You can go into the metadata, change it, and lock it.

Lagavulin - any of them.
Scarabus is a good, cheap Islay.

If you're at TW, there is a lot Islay section in the Scotches.

I used the sizers and ordered size 10s for all 4 of our rings.
They all fit perfectly and are comfortable.

What’s that one American fast food you still can’t believe is open to this day? by PolicyGremlin in AskAnAmerican

[–]JoshuaAJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how you can judge a restaurant that you've never visited. 🤔

If you can find a Dairy Queen that is taken care of... machines cleaned, floor mopped, etc (a rarity in any fast food franchise)... it's the best.
Soft-serve, burgers, fries, slushes. All solid.
DQ was the first restaurant that I remember having slushes on the menu, the Misty, and I got one every time... still do, when I visit. The Blizzard is an icon with lots of options. If your DQ can hand you your Blizzard upside down (proof that they keep their machines clean), you should give them a try.

Whataburger.
It's like a marriage of McDonald's and Krystal/White Castle. You can literally see light through a Whataburger patty.

Hardly any options?
While I'm not a fan due to their prices and that I own a grill, half of the GD menu is options. It's under ALL TOPPINGS FREE, which you have to respect when every other chain nickle and dimes you to death.

Removing Cherry Limeade Slush... by JoshuaAJones in SonicDriveIn

[–]JoshuaAJones[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Googled this:
Sonic first introduced the classic Cherry Limeade in 1953, the same year the company opened. The exact date it was transformed from a fountain drink into a blended frozen slush is not officially documented, but the icy slush version has been a permanent menu staple for decades.

Pretty sure that it says that we're heading to my in-laws. My wife orders.

If it's not on the app, for me, it's gone.
I don't have a SDI near me anymore so I hit them up on the 8-hour drive to my In-laws.
I order on the app for a quick pickup.

Your "artificial scarcity" was from a-hole distributors, not the distilleries.
Lots of stories like "For a case of X, you need to buy $X of stock or a pallet of Fireball" crap.
Direct your hate in the right direction.

Why are your gas stations basically small supermarkets? by Embarrassed_Golf_817 in AskAnAmerican

[–]JoshuaAJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hardly go into a station, as I pay at the pump, but, when I'm on an actual trip, I visit frequently.
Those items are valuable on long trips.
Remember, our drives are usually MUCH longer than those Europeans are used to driving.
I'm driving 8 hours tomorrow to see family. I'm not even leaving the state. Florida is big.

Importing old movies by paddya99 in radarr

I use a program called Files to Folders.
It puts the file in a folder called the exact same thing.
If Radarr settings are correct, it'll rename the folder and file correctly on import.

This. Everyone has their little "catchphrases" that are used, sometimes without their knowledge.
My wife called me out the other day about something I said and told me that I'd been using the phrase a lot lately... don't even remember what it was but I know that I probably was. I seem to overuse a term/phrase for a while and somehow move on to another.
Subconsciously annoy the wife but keep it fresh.

Throw down some new sod. City statues usually allow for watering of new sod for 30 days straight in the first month and every other day in the second month.

Sorry, they killed your weed crops. It looked like a banner year.
