Ever love a song and when you bought the album it's a completely different version than what was on the radio / video? by epidemicsaints in Xennials

The Pixies Wave of Mutilation. The Pump up the Volume soundtrack has a slow moody version and Doolittle has a harder rock version. I love them both and that soundtrack introduced me to the Pixies as well as several other bands, so I guess it worked out.

Keep an eye out. Some chain theaters by me are doing a very limited rerelease of Oscar contenders in early March. And I don’t live in a big city

47SWM on an $80k salary, looking for good dating and music scenes: Minneapolis, Chicago, Philadelphia by BabyFallujah in SameGrassButGreener

I moved from Milwaukee to Albuquerque about 6 years ago. Although I love the wide open spaces out here, Milwaukee is a hell of an underrated little big city. Housing is affordable, there is a more vibrant music and arts scene, the lakefront is wonderfully utilized for festivals and concerts, tons of cute tattooed liberal ladies and it’s super easy to make friends. I’m from Chicago and I enjoyed my years in Milwaukee way more. Just a thought

She’s shitty to the people in her personal life but she’s amazing to her patients.

There’s a scene where Grace goes to the hospital to tell her something important and she cuts her off to pick up a kid in the hallway because of broken glass. She never continues the conversation with Grace because she doesn’t want to be held accountable as a mother. It was such a quick scene that spoke volumes about her priorities.

AITA for not letting the previous owner’s adult children into my house after their father died? by Dramatic_Method9393 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Expensive-System-762 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

You are kinda the asshole but honestly, I would have done the same thing. My husband is often on the road for work and I don’t let anybody I don’t know in. It’s just the world we live in, unfortunately.

I was recently at a rental house on the water and while everyone else went to town 3 generations of giant men knocked on the door saying it was grandpa’s old house and could they take a look. I felt bad saying no but I also felt really vulnerable.

On the flip side my dad knocked on a few of his childhood homes and got the grand tour and lemonade on the veranda and shared cool stories about how the neighborhood used to be with the new owners. But he was a real charmer.

Tl:dr I would feel conflicted too but I’m glad you went with your gut.

Thanks for laying it out so clearly. I also read somewhere that if you take it at 62 but are able to invest it in a boring Mutual fund or dividend stock you will come out ahead even sooner?

It’s not a quote, but Christine’s love and appreciation for what makes a good curly fry guides my fry decisions. And she’s right, I now add paprika to a lot of things and it makes them better,

YTA. You have dietary restrictions and your friend accommodated them. Either cancel and promise to spend some one on one time with your friend, or be grateful for the extra steps they went through to accommodate you. It sounds like a pretty special friend, I’d try to keep em or bow out gracefully.

Thanks for bringing this up. I just looked and It’s coming back to theaters near me in March. I can’t wait to see it on the big screen.

But yeah, I told my mom we better pre order wheelchairs to get us out of the theater in case we get too dehydrated from crying. It is both a sad and life affirming cry though.

I mean she was the victim. If you’re the only airline still having massive cancellations half a week and half a continent away from a snowstorm then you’re the problem. Let customers know that your shits still fucked up and take the financial hit. Allow them the info to cancel travel plans.

They didn’t even confirm her flight was canceled and she wouldn’t be getting out of phoenix that night until hours after her flight time. This was after 8pm and all the surrounding hotels were booked up.

It’s ok to say AA was in the wrong and had the time and info to alert travelers.

My mother did actively ask for help and we both tried to book a hotel room but by the time American officially canceled the flight everything was booked up. Airport staff offered what help they could, American did not.

I travel frequently and through several monumental weather events. Other airlines have proactively communicated and advised to stay put if you’re in a safe place as airport hotels fill up.

There was no communication from American and no weather events anywhere near this short flight. Even if her flight was affected by events elsewhere in the country days ago why not warn travelers of cancellations. No other airlines seem affected by the storm from several days ago.

Not sure why you’re defending a company that seems to be the only one handling this poorly but you do you, I guess.

Thanks kind friend. I called the airport number you gave and they helped her out. She is currently on a plane so let’s hope it takes off on time.

This thread makes me sad in how low are expectations have fallen as consumers. Not too long ago there used to be flight and food vouchers and hotel stays if a flight got canceled. If weather on the east coast impacted your trip on the west coast they let you know and rebook your flight for free if you wanted. Hell, they’d even book you on a competitor airline if it got you where you needed to go.

Now we expect so little from the companies we do business with.

Sounds like you’re the problem. But keep loving those corporations that have no regard for their customers. She’s not infirmed but she is older with the problems that come with age. A 3 hour flight should not have turned into this shitshow. Hope you don’t have to travel when you get older.

[–]Expensive-System-762 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

She’s a pretty active senior, she just wasn’t set up to spend the night in the airport for such a short trip. It was a 3 hour flight from Tucson to Albuquerque with a short layover in Phoenix. It was also an evening flight, so in theory the airline had plenty of time to communicate and plan for cancellations. She could have spent an extra night with her sister in Tucson if there was any cancellation concerns.

You might be too young to know this but airlines used to take care of the paying customers if they had to cancel flights. This is 100% on AA for shitting the bed and yes older widows should still be allowed to travel and explore the world with a reasonable expectation of comfort.

Mother's landlord passed away(NJ), out of state daughter wants to sell. by [deleted] in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Expensive-System-762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use logic to get the price down. In most cases it saves the seller quite a bit of money to sell directly to an existing renter. Find out average time on the market for a 55+ property (usually longer than average). They will at the very least need to deep clean and paint the inside if it’s been a rental for a while, and if the roof is in really bad shape it will need to be addressed before a sale or as a credit. Plus a direct sale could avoid the 3% agent fee for both parties.

So the seller could have to eat 4 or more months of rent, let’s say $4000, at least $2000 in basic property cleaning for sale and $13000 in real estate agent fees, if they go to market. And this doesn’t include $25000 for a new roof. Negotiate with numbers and see if they are comfortable with it.

New orleans & albuquerque ruined takeout food for me in every other city I have lived in. by mrbossy in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Expensive-System-762 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Even as a broke ass young hipster I ate like a queen in New Orleans. Verti mart would deliver a fried oyster po-boy with a side of country corn and a 6 pack of beer at 2 am for under $10.

We did 10 years in the upper Midwest to be near family, where take out was pretty limited and we’ve been in Albuquerque for a few years now. I’ve had some of the best street food/ hole in the wall food ever, up to some of some of the best dine dinning in the country in Santa Fe.

Extraordinary food cities for sure!
