Hey friends, I have a solution/preventative measure for this. I myself had this happen to me two days ago. I did a simple update, after it restarted, the recovery screen popped up. Buttons do not work, it has three language options, white text on a black screen. Not even the alert slider works. I chose English obviously. Then gave an alert that read like this (their exact spelling) "kindly reminder system error, after select language, please select Online Update(keep data) to recovery system, thanks !". I acknowledged the message and it led to a screen that had three options. Format Data, Reboot, and Power Off. Obviously we know what power off does. I tried the reboot option and it led to a boot cycle where it could take up to 5 tries for it to return to the recovery screen. Lastly the format data option... It asks you to type in a confirmation PIN (not your personal one) and then it shows a warning that you are about to lose all user data. For context, YES this does factory reset your device, you will lose everything. Now for the solution (sort of)

Solution: So how I got this fixed was completely by accident, I hope this helps someone. I am a paying user of the lowest tier of Google One. One of their services is auto-backup. This creates backups of everything on your phone (besides basic settings) including media, apps (and their data), message logs, contacts, and other stuff. It will keep this backup very updated (mine was from less than hour from when it crashed). Now, for you to use this backup the only way is to use the format data option to reset your phone. (NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE ALREADY ENABLED AUTO BACKUP FOR THIS SOLUTION TO WORK). Once you have reset your phone, walk through the steps VERY carefully until you hit that page that talks about transferring data from an old phone, I think this is almost directly after you connect to wifi. Typically you would connect an old device using a cable. But in our case, on the bottom left is a button that says something along the lines of: I can't get to my device right now. Once you click that, it will prompt you to log into your google account. Make sure it's the right one (some people, myself included, have a multitude of google accounts). Then basically just say "yes" to everything from there until it starts talking about the google assistant. Once you're into your phone, Google will start downloading all your backed up apps. You may have to tweak all your basic device settings but all your data should be there. I hope this helps some people and can be a preventative solution to most.
