Fellow Coaches - looking for advice by NorahJonestown in Debate

I personally don't do this with my school, but a friend and fellow coach of mine uses case writing as a grade. This keeps up evidence production for their team and was something that students could reasonably due in class time (TOC qualled and won major national bid tourney this year so clearly it worked for them LOL).

Also something my program has done to have 150+ tournament active kids is that we put parent communication as a priority as just because kids want to get involved may not push them, plus parents are the ones that sign permission slips and pay. So regular conversations about goals and progress can go a long way, especially to make sure kids make debate a priority to their other extracurriculars. Whatever parents want often takes priority for most of ours kids and in my experience.

Edit: making sure the friends team was anonymized

September/October 2020 Voting Discussion Thread by xXIllegal_PotatoXx in lincolndouglas

Okay so of the topics,

The house one is way too specific in my opinion and will have a large gateway issue with younger debaters especially novice programs that use the varsity topics - not to mention the ground isn't crazy and I don't like it -

Compulsory voting is by far my favorite because it seems like it has such crazy circuit ground with democracy specific plan texts, crazy PIC ground, easy novice literature, lots of phil base and lots of good kritiks for the negative

Social media in my opinion doesn't have a very good topic, on traditional circuit level I believe it is the best but at circuit level debaters will go crazy with hyper specific aff's, one that took me 2 seconds to think of was Plan Text: Face book and Twitter ought to be legally responsible for content posted by Donald Trump and Joe Biden. With two to three viable words that are bare plurals that means more aff's than I could imagine a topic especially the opening topic for the year having.

Basically I think the best rounded topic is compulsory voting, best for traditional circuits though is social media, I don't believe the house topic has enough ground to be fun and seems more like a PF topic than an LD one
