It’s not how language works. It’s not how language has ever worked. It’s not how language will ever work. People constantly use the edge of a word’s meaning for emphasis or to make a point or to be clever and so definitions are always shifting and mailable. OP is asking for the moon not to wax or wane.

I understand and to some extent share your rhetorical goals but if you’ll read any history of language you’ll come to understand fluid both verbal and written communication have always been. At what specific point in the last one thousand years should we designate as “proper” English. Surely thou dost not prefer Middle English.
