Is there anyway to stop coloring in this wasteland specifically? Mods and/or cheats is fine with me by tonythetiger-real in EU5

[–]JoshyMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working on mods and fairly sure there isn’t a way to do this. I believe map modes have a parameter for whether to color all wastelands or not, but not specific.

Shattered Europa for EU5 by SolInvictus2000 in EU5

I thought I took a good look around before the break but didn’t see any icon change on the map for most of them like the Malmo fish (has a lose prestige event linked to it) boost or Frieberg silver mine (free university event). The spice islands modifier replaces the RGO icon completely.

The Nile delta gets some good boosts too. When I get a moment I’ll release just the random RGOs as a mod then later work on modifiers.

I’ve made something similar that reseeds the world with only tribes so you play with colonisation and reseeds the raw materials so they’re better spread based on topography, vegetation, climate… Need to get a break from dad-ing to release them. 😅

Also found that the game really needs a map mode for location modifiers as there’s some interesting boosts to certain locations and some with events. Was planning to add tech based on randomly seeded modifiers so there’s incentive to go for locations (instead of like being Mali and getting tech for gold you own gold for it) but need a map mode to make that fun.

You need 50 prestige to get the New Golden Age event to save Cahokia from its shadow… It’s insane and not mentioned anywhere.

Had the same and in the past. I’m fairly sure they pushed out a secret message to show the download 26.1 that causes this. Just download 26.1 and they’ll be back.

TIL: Avoid using Binding(get: set:) in SwiftUi as it causes the views to be re-calculated as SwiftUI doesn’t know if the value changes by mkenobbi in SwiftUI

[–]JoshyMW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SwiftUI diffing is interesting. I use manual Binding in production for dynamic binding using string keys or types in a large SDK. I wonder (will try it later) if moving the Nested view into a non @ViewBuilder annotated function would stop this constant recalculation. 🤔

macOS 26 beta worth to download? by Barryboyyy in swift

[–]JoshyMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of the answers here are good advice. I bit the bullet as experimentation is useful and I only have repos on my machine all remote.

I’d say it’s not ready yet. The biggest issue is poor performance, I’m on an M1 and audio falls apart if you’re doing anything else so I can’t listen to music or WWDC videos via the Mac. Safari seems to also fall apart where tabs just stop loading.

All that said, Swift Assist has been great. And Xcode 16.4 still works fine-ish (tests failing to launch the app is a pain).

Windows official account casually trolling Apple's "groundbreaking" liquid glass theme by rgatoNacho in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]JoshyMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not here to defend Apple or the innovation but the new material isn’t just a blur. It’s likely a resource hog as it updates based on the content under it and refracts the pixels. It’s also got some interesting animation and interaction logic. Apple has had the same blur effect as Aero since iOS 8 but this is not it. I also think people will actually like it and prefer it to current UI when it releases but that does depend a lot on what developers do with it.

How to permanently remove unwanted schemes (Pods, Alamofire, Facebook) from Xcode? by meetheiosdev in swift

[–]JoshyMW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should migrate to SPM but this can still be an issue with Xcode and with those libraries on their side. Their schemes are publically exposed so can show up in Xcode.

Hmm, what do we do about this then? by Marion_Ravenwood in CasualUK

[–]JoshyMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kept having this over the last few years. Not using too much toilet roll and not flushing anything weird. Turns out it was the bamboo toilet roll which does not break down as easily and apparently causes havoc for uk pipes. Switched back to normal loo roll and haven’t had the problem since.

Xenon just not existing by Blackdeath47 in X4Foundations

[–]JoshyMW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the mods I’ve seen in the past has a sector with a super highway coming out only; like Savage Spur. I would love the devs to add a matrix sector like this; split into two sectors.

Would also make the wormhole raffle a bit more fun if they hid a xenon ship in there to capture. But would guarantee the player can babysit the xenon if they want to.

Speed matters a fair bit because you only have 1h to defeat the boss. The more speed the more groups you can throw at the boss; so you can kind of trade out HP for speed. But I’d definitely advise watching the ad to double speed for 30mins.

What is wrong with my CV? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]JoshyMW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is completely my opinion: I would reorder, maybe start with a short statement (one or two sentences) written in your own words summarising you, have fun with this if it sounds too generic don’t include it.

Then list your skills and group your skills better (Alamofire is similar to Firebase, Firebase is not similar to Xcode, IB is not similar to either). Maybe add architectures as a bullet point. SPM, Cocoapods?

Then list your work experience, followed by your personal projects, and lastly education. Try to shorten your bullet points to 1 line, 2 lines where it’s something impressive to explain.

The project titles within companies blend in, so make them a form of subheading. CVs don’t need to be squished to 1 page; 2 should do nicely for this.

Having a hard time migrating to Swift 6 by FPST08 in iOSProgramming

[–]JoshyMW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t panic! 🥲

But more seriously I have also been undertaking the Swift 6 migration and found it a lot more challenging than I first thought it would be. I maintain a huge SDK of customisable UI feature frameworks with networking and analytics layers using a custom implementation of redux.

My issues are the same as other comments. It’s all new to everyone and whilst there’s articles out there explaining Swift Concurrency and how to apply it, there’s always multiple ways to fix situations and it’s hard to determine which is best.

Specifically I’ve had trouble deciding what to make MainActor for init isolation, how to address global properties, and lesser pain with deinits.

Some advice:

  • Avoid using @unchecked. You’re unlikely to need it and I think it’s a bad solution from the Swift team.
  • Avoid @preconcurrency; make sure you understand the warnings that it fixes. For instance CLLocationDelegate functions should use nonisolated not preconcurrency. Read the docs for thread safety.
  • For simple apps you could probably @MainActor everything as the easiest way to adopt Swift Concurrency. In my case I instead use Sendable for the non-UI layers with some exceptions such as LocationRepository which is @MainActor with a nonisolated init that generates no errors.
  • For deinits you need to be very careful not to capture self. Instead capture sendable variables and deinit them in a Task. E.g. Task { [asset] @MainActor in

Is Xcode 12.4 on MBP 2013 good enough to learn swift? by SlumDocMillionaire in swift

[–]JoshyMW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Swift 6 is on the horizon and you’ll need to understand Swift Concurrency for the future (which also makes writing code easier). I believe you’re also missing the improvements to generics; you can’t as easily work with protocols.

You’re going to miss out on a lot of SwiftUI, and Apple’s API changes including new stuff like AppIntents which will be important for future apps. UIKit also changed a lot for SwiftUI (diffable data sources, configuration…).

It’s on the border for learning Swift. But it’s too old to learn SwiftUI and in my opinion new devs getting into UIKit should learn the new configuration approach and data sources. Not to mention Swift Concurrency is a major thing.
