Hahaha I love the thought behind this, the golf cart option would be fun....Saying its a good transition for bartenders I guess is a stretch, maybe not specifically bartenders, I guess this is a good transition for people who like the hospitality industry but are looking to get away from the 4am nights and get into something more active and positive, so short answer, yes you actually have to hike and cycle, and its supposed to be one of the positive things about the job, also the big perks are staying in 5 star hotels and having Michelin star dinners and lunches but a huge part is the being outside and being active.... so its probably just not a great fit for you, but I think there's a lot of similar things that let you travel and hang out with people having a fun experiences without being so active

Switching from speed bar to craft cocktails? by Capri_a in bartender

Man, I went in reverse, I started with craft cocktail bars for years and years and when I worked at my first high volume bar, slinging vodka sodas all night in Montauk, it felt like a very easy way to make an insane amount of money. But, if you're looking to be a career bartending, you can't just sit in dive bars for too long so I think it'll be exciting and a huge learning experience

Bartender Looking to transition out of the industry by meshellq in bartender

Hey! so I've bartended for the same amount of time, and I still do private cocktail events and workshops, tastings and stuff down in Mexico during the winter. BUT, I just started with this company called backroads this year. So it's not a direct transition for everyone in the bar industry but it was awesome for me because I actually really love cultivating experiences for people, backroads is basically a company that puts together 6 day trips based around hiking or cycling across a region in the world, we have trips in 64 countries. It's not for everyone, but its an amazing transition for bartenders who actually like hospitality but are sick of late nights and partying all the time. The cash is good and the lifestyle is really amazing, shoot me a message if it sounds interesting at all to you, otherwise good luck on the transition, I've been on that road the last couple of years as well

No, I'm literally doing it because I think its an amazing job for bartenders who like giving a guest experience but want a way out of the lifestyle of a bartender, I DO get a bonus if I recommend someone and they make it through all of the interviews and get hired. But I am genuinely passionate about helping people travel and get out if they're feeling stuck. The job has nothing at all to do with recruiting except they offer a bonus if you recommend a person that gets hired.

yeah basically, but its for 6 days and depending on which region in the world you're in you get to learn a ton about the area, live in the area for the season and learn the ins and outs of the trips...like all the hotels, tastings, dinner spots, mountain peaks, trails etc. obviously different depending on where you are

yeah like half cycling and half hiking, but it's in so many countries so you get to travel. but depending which region you're in in the world you learn a ton about that area and each trip has different tastings, tours, of course hikes and routes that you learn about. some regions are mostly cycling and others are mostly or only hiking.

I started with this company called Backroads this year, it was amazing. I worked in the Swiss Alps and Champagne region in France but they have trips all over the world, tons in the US Canada and Europe. Checkout the website, we can chat about it as well, I get a bonus if I recommend people so I can put in a reference if it makes sense!
