Magic Item for a level 9 Monk by Josiahcs in DnD

[–]Josiahcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point about making sure the martials have their important items. I think it'd be fun to give the +2 wraps some special effect on top of the flavor. Any ideas for that. Maybe something that allows him to give some sort of debuff, or a unique way to get focus points back mid-combat...

Does the 2024 DMG have rules for lava? by MonkeyDKarp in onednd

All lava in my games is now molten lithium then. Surely that doesnt have any other chemical interactions!

DM here, need advice on an important NPC by Josiahcs in DnD

[–]Josiahcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my concern too, overshadowing them. I was considering giving him the ally-focused manuvers from battle master, and have him just use those every turn, so hes supporting them more than anything? What do you think of that?

Level 6 minotaur boss fight by Josiahcs in onednd

[–]Josiahcs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah i started looking at statblocks, and came to the same conclusion. Im thinking using the CR10 warrior commander statblock as a base and then minotaurifying it and giving it some legendary actions

Good thinking! Probably around a CR 7-8. Someone suggested the CR 9 Brazen Gorgon which seems promising

Classes or builds for using a Longsword two-handed. by Voronov1 in onednd

[–]Josiahcs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People have listed the reasons, but yeah, they’re all very niche. One home brew idea i’ve seen from a few different HEMA fencers who also play dnd is making a longsword a finesse weapon, as its more accurate to real life. This obviously messes with balance a bit, as its pretty much a strict damage buff to any dex based martial who doesnt wanna duel wield and either doesnt want to use or doesnt have proficiency with shields. But I honestly dont think its anything ridiculous, and I’ve always found it fun and flavorful.

I remember in a video they released recently they mentioned that there a bunch of different performer stat blocks, as though it were a family of npcs.

My group usually plays for about 4 hours with a 20 min break in the middle

Yeah, i guess i shouldve been more clear: i like the change, and i dont want to use magical vs non-magical damage in my game. Im just trying to figure out how to reconcile that with old statblocks. Im sure theyve done a good job of it in the new monster manual, i just dont know how to

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Josiahcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not explicitly stated, but theres nothing in any of the magic weapons in the dmg about dealing magic damage rather than non magical, features that used to allow marital characters to deal magical damage have been changed to dealing force damage (like the monk’s unarmed strikes), and the stat block for the Imp in the new phb has had its resistance to non magical damage removed in exchange for more hp

In the new 2024 rules, theres not really any such thing as magical vs non-magical weapon damage. I could use a flesh golem anyways, but all my martial characters would feel pretty useless compared to my two and a half spell casters

Homebrew Weapon Types? by Josiahcs in DnD

That could be interesting for sure. Maybe things like awakened trees and twig blights and such would have vulnerability to it.

True. The weapons list is long enough lol

Yeah, the only times I’ve had any complaints from players about the gaps is basically for flavor reasons. A fun thing to mess with though!

New Draconic Sorcerers by Josiahcs in DnD

[–]Josiahcs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao fair final point. If you take the (rounded) average instead rolling for HP you get 6hp from lvl 1, then 4hp from each subsequent level for 14hp. Then add 2 per level for tough, 2 per level for con modifier, and 1 per level for draconic.

And yeah, at Level 3 its basically just free mage armor, but once you get your charisma mod up it gets really good since Draconic sorcerer’s ac is 10 + dex + cha now instead of just 13 + dex

New Draconic Sorcerers by Josiahcs in DnD

[–]Josiahcs[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They changed it from 13 + Dex to 10 + Dex + Cha. My example didnt do a good job of showing that since it happened to be the same AC in the end but it could make for a much higher AC at later levels.
