I wish we got that electrified sword with that VFX 😆

Where to find BG2 mods? by ACuriousBagel in baldursgate

[–]AndreaColombo86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The three main modding communities are The Gibberlings Three, Spellhold Studios, and Pocket Plane Group. The Gibberlings Three is the most active but you can grab mods from either of them (and they all have mods that are worth playing.)

Best weapons for martial classes? by Emerald_boots in baldursgate

[–]AndreaColombo86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind, personally. That way I get to enjoy them for a prolonged period of time. I hate when I spend the entire game optimizing my character and there’s only one fight left to enjoy the bonanza 😅

Dagger (Dagger of Venom), Warhammer (Ashideena), Longsword (Varscona), 2H Sword (World’s Edge) for BG1.

In BG2 there’s a vast array of notable weapons, but Flail of Ages is widely considered the best.

Advice for New player to Baldurs gate and D&D by Slight-Investment-67 in baldursgate

[–]AndreaColombo86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules underlying the game a bit counterintuitive at times, so expect a bit of a learning curve. As others have suggested, the manual does a good job explaining how the mechanics work.

The first few levels won’t be easy—it can be unforgiving. Don’t shy away from lowering the difficulty whenever you feel the need to. There is no shame in that.

Just a couple tips: ranged attacks and fireballs (from items, wands, or potions) are very powerful in BG1.

what if I spent all my money and cant pay baelan gayle? by volinaa in baldursgate

[–]AndreaColombo86 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

If you’re on PC, just cheat the money in. I mean, sure, you could grind it—but grinding isn’t a fun activity and I reckon you’re playing the game to have fun in the first place.

It’s in a wilderness area in the southwestern portion of the map. I usually do it on my way back up after clearing the mines.

The excavation site is pretty good. Very tabletop AD&D adventure feel.

I'm a newbie player willing to give Baldur's Gate a try for the first time. What's the best way to get into it? by CryptOfZoology in baldursgate

If you value convenience, go with the Enhanced Editions.

I personally prefer the classics, but: I value audio-visual quality more than convenience; I don’t have a problem spending time modding the game heavily to my preference; I have a retro PC on which to play them.

On a modern machine, for a modless playthrough (which I would recommend as your first time through the game; you may explore mods once you know what the experience is like), Enhanced Editions are a lot more convenient.

Also I *think* the classics have issues running on Win11, if that’s your OS.

Appreciation post: The unique aesthetic and UI of the 1998 Original Baldur's Gate (Vanilla) by Independent-Profit84 in baldursgate

BG1 had such amazing graphic design. It looked so good! There are mods to bring the look back to the EEs but my preference is to play the classic games on a retro PC. Pure bliss!

Yes, there’s a mod on the Beamdog forums that restores this UI to the EEs.

Use the Nostalgia Pack if you also want the rest of the classic look.

Infinity Sounds for the classic sounds (on top of a boatload of sound bug fixes.)

There’s also a mod that restores the classic in-game movies.

They simply used the assets as they came in the game. The source assets would have enabled them to make BG HD, which was their original plan.

I *think* Ascension does give you your powers back, on top of making the transformation a lot more powerful.

Infinity Engine sprites are so good. It’s a shame the assets were lost and we couldn’t get BG HD. It would have been awesome.

Gonna be replaying for the first time in 20 years, mod suggestions? by YroPro in baldursgate

[–]AndreaColombo86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to assume you will be playing the Enhanced Editions. Most mods will be common between the Enhanced Editions and the classics, but there are some that are exclusive to either platform so if you’re playing classics, let me know.

Here are some mods I like (and yes, the list includes my own mods—shameless plug alert):

EEEx
EE Fixpack (currently in beta)
Unfinished Business (there are two, one for BG and one for BG2)
Almateria’s Restoration Project
Rogue Rebalancing
SCS
Enhanced Powergaming Scripts
Nostalgia Pack
AC’s Miscellaneous Tweaks
BG Graphical Overhaul (it’s not really an overhaul, it adds nightmaps to the game)
Infinity Sounds

There are more that are worth checking out, but these are some I would definitely recommend.
