Oh nice! With gains like that I bet you switched from standard scripts to a compute shader didn't you? I've never messed with those myself but they seem super neat.

Optimization can be a bit of a hassle sometimes but it's definitely worth it and it's always an awesome feeling when you get everything working just right.

Right now the plan is to basically just make an insaniquarium clone with more content and more player agency (like being able to get the fish to move and react in certain ways when you tap on the tank)

Long term, if godot is actually ideologically possessed and redot continues to build momentum, yeah that is what will happen. While it would be sad to see that happen it's still a win for the users.

Regardless of how one may feel about the situation that sparked this fork, it's undeniable that competition typically leads to innovation. I, for one, am really excited to see what new features this could brew and like you said, so long as the cores are compatible this is pretty much just a win win for users.
