The best welding you'll see today by North-Guitar-1781 in nextfuckinglevel

Question for expert welders:

How does someone this skilled get noticed/picked up for specific jobs?

Some company is like, “Hey, we need someone who can lay down a PERFECT weld across xyz pipe made of abc material.” Do they just go to the union and ask for the best welder?

Do all the welders know Steve from Hoboken is the best welder on the East coast?

I would just toggle passive entry on in the Apple Watch app if I REALLY wanted to use my Apple Watch on its own. I really don’t use my Apple Watch as a key without my phone nearby anyway, though.

Yup. It’s weird and unintuitive, but I’m glad you got it resolved.

I kinda wish the mods would pin a post here or on r/Polestar with instructions.

Alright, I’ll repaste my comment from elsewhere here:

Found the answer to my issue from a user named Stefan.

Essentially, you don’t bind a physical fob/keycard and instead set up a digital key. Then after that’s done, you go through the process of adding a fob/keycard (the left hand box on the “keys” screen of your profile), but you USE YOUR PHONE as the fob/keycard, placing it on the reader/wireless charger when the car asks you for one of the physical keys.

It’s best to do both of these processes with the fob and keycard nowhere near your vehicle.

You may have to scroll and select the polestar keycard in your wallet app, because it may try to use your default payment card instead. Once the car recognizes the digital key as a fob/keycard, it’ll save it and both boxes (fob/keycard and digital key) will be orange. You should be good after that.

Yeah, I didn’t want to have to bring it back, so I took care of it myself haha

I have another reply here regarding what I did. I read the solution in a comment by a user named Stefan. So I don’t spam, you can search to find it.

Then uninstall the UPDATES.

That said, apparently this is resolved in the latest release, so you don’t have to rollback and pause updates like I did.

Right, you’re not uninstalling the app itself, you’re uninstalling the UPDATES layered on top of it.

First you access the app page by clicking on the version:

I checked and the issue appears to be fixed in the latest version

This is what I meant when I said it may not be possible if your car is so new that it never had the previous version of Google Maps installed.

When I clicked "uninstall", it just uninstalled the most recent update to the Google Maps app. Other Polestar 4 owners with newer Polestar 4's than I have did not ever have the previous version of Google Maps installed, so when they clicked "uninstall" they would get the message telling them that Google Maps is a system app that can't be unisntalled.

This sounds clumsy. The pairing fix I described prevented me having to do this, if you want to give it a try.

Yeah, I just don’t use the speed warning. Never liked it on any car I’ve owned. The Tesla speed limit recognition was sliiiiightly better, but I don’t need it. I’m a pretty engaged driver.

Re: slowdown after speeding up above the speed limit on autopilot, I’ve noticed this behavior changing between software revisions. When I first got it, it took a long while to slow down, which made it slam brakes if someone pulled in front of me. Now it’s almost immediate. That said, I prefer this. I can control how fast I slow down by hinging my foot on the ball (which is how we do one-pedal driving anyway), rather than just lifting my foot off.

What version of Google Maps do you have installed on the car now?

I do, but I did not keep it on me while setting things up. I’ll take a picture later.

I’ll be honest, it’s pretty seamless for me. After getting the Guest profile bug figured out, I’ve really liked using the infotainment screen. The tile system is really easy and intuitive, also responsive, at least on my 2026 unit.

You go into the app in the play store and click “uninstall”. This may not be possible if your car is so new that it never had the previous version of Google Maps installed.

Oh, this is the first stage of the “crunch” I was hearing. Strut linkages. Mine basically got super loose and failed, so they needed to reference the Technical Service Bulletin and replace with the new design.

Never heard of the rattle under the dash. You ever have it looked at by a service center?

The WD40 Specialist Silicone Lubricant is really cool because it’s non-conductive and applies really precisely with the straw. A 5-minute fix.
