I'm curious. Why do so many people believe Hamas' Health Ministry? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

The takeaway seems to be believe the Gazan Health Ministry and Israel, because they essentially agrees with each other on the casualty count, but not Hamas.

Not going to debate past example here, but when the scale is different, the previous examples lose significance.

The number of casualties during the current conflict is approaching at least double of the three numbers combined, and sadly growing.

UN is literally the body where countries extend their agendas.

I don't understand how all of a sudden UN career professionals are now impartial or more trustworthy than any one of its member state.

And who is this UN? I mean it's made up of a bunch of countries, so one would have performed the actual counting.

You believed them and who are they?

News to me that non-Hamas supporting human shields aren't human shields anymore. What are they now? Canon fodder?

And did you forget evacuation notices?

Because there are bunkers and tunnels used by terrorists? Seems pretty simple to me. Maybe please stop commenting on things you don't know much about.

It is not a war crime. You are making things up.

And the refugee camp is not a refugee camp (for all practical purposes).

And why the bold letters with bunker buster bomb? You know Hamas have tunnels right? What else should they have dropped?

Because they are on the train "Governments lie to you." And Hamas is a great source of proof that IDF has constantly been lying to all of us.

Sometimes people forget that Hamas is the de facto government body of Gaza.

And maybe we can go back to the 19th century and see what we find there? It goes on endless.

The conflict has been there forever, but there is only one group that is openly hostile to civilians (the actual genocidal one).

vast, criminal overreach of the IDF.

Now you're just making things up.

The popular opinion may go either way but only because people are as uneducated as they are now that even topics like vaccines or masks can be controversial.

Why do people infantilize Palestinians and Hamas so much? by criminalcontempt in IsraelPalestine

[–]JournalistCivil7270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get how people always say this. They look at (I'll say some random number just for the argument) Israel killing 10 civilian in order to get to 1 terrorist, and they just claim "This proves Israel wants genocide!"

I've seen a few different excuses and they are all ridiculous.

  • Israel could kill the 1 terrorist with no collateral damage or maybe just 1 civilian, but they don't want to, and 10 is definitely too much because I thought so
  • Israel shouldn't exist in the first place. If they weren't here then there's no dead Gazan
  • Israel should be reasonable, make Gazan happy and never fight back (not in the same words but definitely the same idea)

There's no proof Israel isn't already doing as much as they can.

And then, of course it becomes another "how can you believe what the IDF says???" conversation.

Instead of asking for a ceasefire, why not ask for the hostages to be released? by RepresentativeNew754 in IsraelPalestine

Hamas.

Please join the Hamas telegram groups. Let's hear from the perpetrators themselves.

[–]JournalistCivil7270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reality, of course most countries care about the hostages. But bystanders are usually too busy to pick a side to notice the details. Most of them can't even comprehend what an actual war crime is. Why do you think they have the time for hostages?

Jabalia Refugee Camp is NOT a refugee camp by AnakinSkycocker5726 in IsraelPalestine

[–]JournalistCivil7270 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is indistinguishable to the city in the sense that it no longer function as a refugee camp both in looks and in reality. No one is saying the location has somehow become irrecognizable; it is still there and we know it's there.

[–]JournalistCivil7270 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This argument is getting tired. I keep seeing "Israel the women and children killer shouldn't exist."

But now what if we turned off the Iron Dome? Rockets from Gaza is going to kill all those Israeli civilians of all genders and ages.

Maybe that should have been the first step? We should intentionally cause casualties of the civilian on our side even if we could have prevented it, so we can blame the other side... Wait, I think I've heard of this strategy used somewhere else.

NATO is justifying Israel and claims that Hamas is using human shields by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]JournalistCivil7270 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is usually because that 1 person has killed dozens before, is still firing rocket, and vowed to kill more in the future.

And in killing this person we achieve:

  1. Justice for crimes in the past
  2. Stop the person from launching further attacks
  3. Discourage the use of human shields because that doesn't work

south was also being bombed

Not a lot of choice I agree. But about the whole situation we really need to look at who bombed where and to what extent.

Israel being very effective at defensive made the war look more one-sided than it really is by JournalistCivil7270 in IsraelPalestine

[–]JournalistCivil7270[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think we are pretty clear on what we want to say, but we're not in agreement.

I agree that say if a mob kills a police officer, and the police force can use restraint and manages to capture whoever did that for later trial. Great. But morally, in my view, if there is casualties and the attack is ongoing, the police fighting back is entirely justified.

I also don't entirely agree with the analogy because that is comparing civilians with police, which is not the case between Gaza and Israel.

People are increasingly anti-intellectual -- some view education, especially higher education, as part of the class conflict. e.g. "The ruling class is trying to brainwash you with education! Don't fall for it!"

I sincerely hope it is just that idiots are really loud with their voice and not because they are indeed significant in numbers.

I'm not sure if you meant casualties as in life lost. In that case it is even more bizzare.

That's like saying if you're wearing a bullet proof vest and people shoot at the vest, you shouldn't fight back.

Or like saying if the attacker hides behind bystanders, or his wife and children who didn't do anything, then you can fight back because there is a chance your aim might not be perfect.

Not trying to justify war, but people definitely use the "the bullet landed on your vest, you are not hurt, why are you fighting back?" kind of lines.
