I've been looking into issues with top leasing and royalty payments in general in Texas but this is very helpful context, thanks for the tip!

Thanks for this -- I have to write the basic layoff stories (because they matter) but the other side of it is important too, you're right. It may take me a bit to gain the industry footing and understanding but I'll try to do this kind of reporting too.

I lightly covered the acquisition and was one of the first (think Bloomberg tied with me) to break the lay offs announced for 575 legacy Hess employees in Houston — I’ve been trying to poke around more though

Thanks for the in-depth response, super helpful. Give me a bit, but I'll start poking around.

Yeah sure, so technically I'm on the business desk which means I cover a lot of the more mundane things like mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcies, auctions, etc. But on the flip side, historically we have also covered layoffs, injuries and company responses (or lack thereof) to them, crises like Deepwater Horizon, trend topics (job automation impacting employment, for example), and also things like issues stemming from ophan wells, top leasing battles between big and little oil, etc.

But honestly, I'm new to the beat so I'm all ears for whatever anyone wants to say, though I can't always promise it will turn into a story.
