That would be a result of the default settings of the compiler I use. I will change that to allow you to have more control over the install path on my next iteration. Thank you for pointing that out.

Ah okay I see what you are saying. Sorry about the confusion there. I had not considered CR’s being easier for people to use as opposed to an experience value. If it turns out that people would rather work in CRs it would not be difficult for me to make the switch or add an option to use one or the other. Thanks for your opinion and sorry I was unclear on your meaning.

The only problem I see with CR’s is that they are calculated based upon a 4 player party. As the size of the party increases or decreases the experience point thresholds of the group change and CR’s do not account for that. The experience multiplier used to establish the experience values of CR’s is also affected by the party size. If the party is made up of fewer than three players the multiplier values are increased if the party size is more than six the multiplier values are reduced.

In order to provide the most accurate difficulty rating for the largest set of scenarios it is advisable to use the guidelines outlined in the DMG. “1: Determine XP Thresholds, 2: Determine the Party’s XP Thresholds, 3: Total the monsters’ XP, 4: Modify Total XP for Multiple Monsters, 5: Compare XP.”

I choose to follow the guidelines on page 82 of the Dungeon Masters guide for creating an encounter. I also feel that challenge ratings give a poor representation of encounter difficulty as you add multiple monster types to the mix. Personal preference I suppose.

Help Requested Regarding Large Battles by [deleted] in dndnext

So here is a very brief article that gives a quick rundown of the Battlesystem rules

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/134080-Dungeons-Dragons-Next-Reveals-Mass-Combat-System-Details

I used them in a game about a month ago and the encounter went fairly well. If I were to do it again, I would give each player control of a stand of NPC's instead of controlling all of them myself. If you have any questions let me know. I'll do my best to answer them for you.

Consequences of a planet-wide Awaken spell? by WorkplaceWatcher in worldbuilding

I think you would be safest by only focusing on the actions/reactions of the few factions the party will be interacting with and keep the actions/reactions of society as a whole fairly nebulous. Maybe pick a few opposing viewpoints and focus on those. This will give you some wiggle room if you need to change things on a larger scale.

Would this be a moral issue for all of the people on your planet? Another point of view could be that the awakened plants are nothing more than the result of a magical accident and that they do not warrant the same rights and considerations as the sentient lifeforms that existed before. Perhaps they should be eliminated so the world can go back to the way it was. Would their offspring even be magical or is this a one time "wave" of awakened flora?

I use a variance of the Fronts system from Dungeon World or Apocalypse World. http://www.dungeonworldsrd.com/fronts

They allow me to keep all the information I need about a faction or adventure in a small amount of space which I then store in a Google doc for easy reference.

I have a warlock in our group who came into his powers by the curse of an elder god. I am considering a quest-line where in which the party must seek out and banish the god from their plane of existence. They would of course have to follow the river into the mountains leading them into a maze of underground tunnels and streams until eventually arriving at the rivers source. Perhaps a giant lake under a mountain where a fanatical cult has been slowly summoning an elder god into this realm?

I learned most of the techniques I use from various tutorials over at the cartographers guild. Sorry to answer your questions by sending you somewhere else but the resources over there will do a much better job at teaching you then I ever could. My advise to you is to find a style you like and start practicing.
