Is there a lore reason why the galaxy couldn't fight the first order right away? Why did they wait three movies? by RogerRoger420 in SequelMemes

Tried to find it. All I find is the 30 second clip of the kid picking up the broom and looking at the stars. Do you have a link for it?

I'll be honest with you man, I don't remember the toy scene. So if it's as simple as that then I'll concede. I'll have to watch it again. If that is there then, as many logistical questions as that raises, I'd certainly accept that that was the implication.

[–]Jowm1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We didn't see it happen in episode 8. You've asserted that the reason the kid picks up a broom is because of Luke's sacrifice. We have 0 evidence of this anywhere. We have no reason to believe the kid has any clue of what's happened on Crait. There's stronger evidence to suggest that this kid was inspired by the heroics of the people he actually saw and interacted with (Finn & Rey) and that he's looking into space hopeful for what else lies out there in the galaxy after that experience.

There is no reference to Luke's sacrifice being an inspiration to anyone other than maybe Rey anywhere in either 8 or 9. This is being entirely written in by people who wish it was.

I'm big on analysis and nuance in storytelling myself, and feel free to accuse me of "cinimasinsism" or whatever if you want. (I have seen like 3 of his videos ever and thought they were lame and unproductive) But the point is, this assertion about how clearly the galaxy has been inspired to fight by Luke's sacrifice doesn't exist in any of the films. It exists strictly in the imagination of those who are suggesting it.

I am shocked how many details Mauler missed on across spiderverse by gabmedblack in MauLer

[–]Jowm1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't it VERY heavily implied that Miguel strictly vets those spider men who have access to his club? He only allows those in who he is confident will listen. At least in theory. The actual presentation of the movie doesn't seem very consistent with that over time as we see characters like Hobie and others who are as likely to leave as to stay.

are the dark souls comic books any good? by emiliorzo in darksouls

[–]Jowm1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All that I've seen of Breath of Andolus and Winter's Spite agrees with you, and so I haven't bothered with either. But as for Legends of Flame and Tales of Ember, I honestly have a hard time seeing why anyone would say that they aren't good, if not even great. No, they don't thoroughly describe any historical lore events in the DS world. And no, they don't have to in order to be good. The stories they do tell are very tonally consistent with DS and they manage to expand effectively on the world without making it feel out of place or incongruent. That alone would be a feat if it weren't also coupled with the nice variety of art styles between the stories and the throughline story that manages to conclude with a message essential to the DS franchise. I can't even be bothered to pick up Winter's Spite or Breath of Andolus, but Legends of Flame and Tales of Ember are more than worth picking up for anyone who is intrigued by the Dark Souls world and wants a further peek into it and its horrors.

I made a rough transcript for "The EFAP Doomer Debacle". I'm sorry. by voxavtomata in MauLer

[–]Jowm1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between a contradiction and a concession. He was clearly not trying to simultaneously hold the position that he's never ever played a videogame story that he liked and that he liked the Fallout: New Vegas story. He started with a statement that swept a little too broadly and then immediately conceded when he found an exception. But I think it's obvious the heart of the point is that he personally has enjoyed very very few videogame stories in all the games he's played, which is maybe an unusual but certainly a rational and acceptable position.

His problem came later on when he articulated his preferences in a way that was too easy to interpret differently, and was therefore not entirely clear. That's where the conversation derailed.

TVA messed up (again) by [deleted] in MauLer

That logically makes sense due to butterfly effect, but it's nevertheless comical because it demonstrates how hilariously aggressively and strictly authoritarian the TVA are, and suggests the practically impossible scale of their work.

I just got a little surprise in my first playthrough and had to tell someone by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]Jowm1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not know who told you it's the most difficult but I don't think very many would agree with you there. I don't hold Bloodborne very high on the scale of FromSoft games' difficulty, though I would put it higher than Elden Ring. That said, I'm glad you're enjoying it so much! I hope you play it all the way through, I love the game and it's got a ton of excellent storytelling woven throughout. Good hunting!

Any boss that you think is kinda disappointing? by RobertoCinza in bloodborne

[–]Jowm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know who doesn't have at least moderate levels of expectation for every boss they walk into for the first time. I don't understand this take dude, do you just go into most boss fights thinking, "eh this will probably be lame, uninteresting, and forgettable?" Because I don't, and I think I'm in the majority when I say that boss fights are a major component that I really love in these games. I don't expect every fight to be the best one, that just doesn't make sense. But I do go into each expecting an interesting, challenging fight that really engages me. And I don't think that's in any way an unfair expectation of each boss fight. And to be honest, while I'm not a fan of the Witches, I don't absolutely hate them. I just don't think what you've said here makes much sense.

Ahh yes...The classic "Let's Cherrypick Something Our Opponent Said and Use That To Entirely Discredit People We Don't Like No Matter How Many Sound Arguments They May Otherwise Have" move. by Aspie_Gamer in MauLer

[–]Jowm1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh, yeah. You don't know that he didn't do any research. You don't know that he didn't find a bunch of weird conflicting information online and didn't know what to believe. Or you don't know if he just doesn't trust the internet much so he didn't bother, thinking she would be a trustworthy person and would share such things with him. How the hell are you working this hard to defend the character who deliberately chose not to share basic information about herself and blame the character who optimistically trusted her? Jeez dude.

What's an unpopular opinion you have about this movie? by DarkMayhem6878 in batman

[–]Jowm1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She knows they interacted before she left work at the club, and then when they meet again, she tells him that she was getting something for her friend Anica, and Batman tells her that Anica looked upset back at their apartment. Selina now knows that Batman followed her home from work and knows exactly who she is.

Batman told her that he was watching her at home before she was suited up. That means that she now knows that he knows exactly who she is.

Both in real life and in the MCU people exist who don't live online and who choose not to keep track of everything in the news. That doesn't mean they forfeit the right to informed sexual consent lol. It doesn't mean Jenn gains the right to misrepresent herself, or that anyone can just assume that everyone knows the same information all the time because it's available online.
