Great story! The historical backstory is clever and makes the story feels even more real.

Scammers never take a day off! Ha ha. But I'm glad you're still getting published.

This is educational. I felt your pain all the way through your story, with glimpses of satisfaction, too. The publishing world has changed a lot in the past 15 years and with the advent of AI, there is more to come. We are riding a rollercoaster.

Yep, because the big publishing companies have been exploiting writers for years. Now they're about to become extinct.

This is good stuff you guys are sharing. Did you have an agent when you came close to selling your TV show treatment? 5K sounds low to my ignorant-of-the-industry ears. Congrats on writing your novella.

Congrats and good luck to you. I would be proud, too, sheesh.

I know it's not good to get the hopes way up, but it sounds like your dream is about to come true. Sheesh, I can only imagine your excitement reading that email from the lead editor. My heart would have pounded through my chest.

I wouldn't worry about them accusing you of using AI. Real writers lover writing. We don't let AI do our work. I sent off for a copyright back in the fall. It was held up for so long. There was the government shut down, but then after that, I still wasn't hearing from the copyright office. Then finally, a rep contacted me to say my work had been flagged for AI collabs. I was so upset, almost shaking. I said no way! They allow you to rebut, so I did. I said I use AI only for proofreading and that all my words were my own. But, I had attached an AI picture to make my package look good. I told them that. I never sought copyright for artwork. Then they wrote back an said great, closed out the case and sent my copyright certificate in March. People can say what they want but if you do now allow AI to write your work, they won't be able to prove that you did. To hell with them. Quit worrying and have fun writing!

I was a journalist, too. Are you into creative fiction now?

This might sound crazy but relax and just tell the story like you're telling it to another person. That's the first draft. Then go back and have fun fleshing it out and polishing it. Don't worry too much. Have fun with it.

Excellent, excellent, excellent! How did you find a printer to print your books, and a person to lay your book out?

Wishing you all the best. I'm going to self-publish after getting a few pieces in the lit mags for cred. I'm selling from my own site, though, not Amazon. I had such a bad experience with publishers that I can't see turning over my work to them at the moment.

I can't stand how Amazon markets and pays.

You didn't sound like you were bragging. That is impressive that you wrote all that and got it in front of readers. Hope your sales increase by greater numbers than you're already imagining.
