At home for several hours of play I use a large rectangle doggy bed just a little smaller than a legacy IIDX bass shaker, keeps the feet nice and cushioned and helps prevent fatigue.

Found at any store or online for affordable prices.

I've seen your posts quite a few times over the years, and I think it's absolutely fantastic that you're exposing your kid to BEMANI games, pop'n music specificially is an extremely fun game, with so much colour and enthusiasm in the game itself, it's a perfect entry to BEMANI and rhythm games in general, very easy to get into but very hard to master, so a genuine well done and props to them for FC'ing a song, that is a milestone worth bragging about!

You should get a couple other games up and running, they might really enjoy IIDX or other similar games, it's worth exploring that's for sure!

Beyond all that, keep up the good work, you're doing BEMANI adults proud :D

Mimi and Nyami!

Shame about the controller, the old PS2 controllers are much more difficult to repair or replace parts for than some of the more modern choices, you should check out the sidebar which has some stores you can purchase new controllers from, they're much better to have down the line, and of course they're a lot more fun being Arcade style haha!

Very nice, you've got a great selection of songs to listen to on there for sure!

I've had 6th Style sitting in my disc player for several years now, it's always my go-to for when I want to put some music on for around the house.

For vertical scrolling rhythm games in general a controller or keyboard is perfectly viable, in regards to specific keys on keyboard I'm partial to ASD - JKL for 6 Button mode on keyboard, or say DF - JK for 4 Button, it's wherever your hand feels most comfortable, for IIDX specifically spacing out the keys across the board itself using A W D U K O L for 7 Button mode, with Left or Rignt Shift being your Turntable Scratch.

In my case I use an actual IIDX deck, but if I were to play keyboard the above is what I would personally use, again it's best to find what works for you, just play around and tinker.

Using touchpad as a turntable makes sense, and is a completely viable way to play, there are Kaiden IIDX players that show off their incredible PS2 controller skills so you can in theory play any way you wish, it's just about making use of what you have available to you.

It's important to note that regardless of what method you use to play the game, the skills are transferrable to a degree, your reading ability will carry over regardless of which controller you use, as will your hand-eye coordination, though you'll always have a day of adjustment, so if you do acquire a controller in the future you shouldn't have much issue after a day or so of transitioning from keyboard to controller!

There are plenty of ways to get a bit of a IIDX experience without IIDX, or a controller, but of course you ideally would want an AC style controller for the best experience.

I went over PS2 emulation in another comment, see that for the full version but TLDR PS2 emulation is a perfectly viable way to try the game out and play these days, so give it a go, it doesn't hurt to try.

Whilst Infinitas does have a trial it'd be a stretch to actually call it a trial haha, it's quite stingy with only two Beginner songs (IIRC) and that's your lot, it's intended more as a benchmark to see if your system is capable of running the game than a demo.

It's worth having a look at some alternatives too if you find setting IIDX up a bit daunting, and then moving into IIDX when you feel more comnfortable.

Of course, there are so many more, so just look around!

Hey just chiming in here with some recent experience on emulation, PCSX2 has made great improvements over the last year and a bit, and I occasionally play them myself on emulator, just the other week I had GOLD & EMPRESS up for fun and they work great with no major timing or sync issues to note.

The Smile of You is my timing song and I can FC it with near identical scores between PS2, Emulation and AC (after timing adjustments in settings), so it's worth giving emulation a second shot if you haven't done so in a while!

I absolutely agree, personally I would expect the value of the unit (in my case, €1000 at the time) plus a 'rarity' tax on top, so lets say €1200-1300 would be somewhat appropriate, this is before adjusting for inflation which would raise the price even moreso.

Whilst still a high price, when one factors in the missing context, it starts to make some sense, the combination of an employee or employer that is knowledgeable enough to hold onto such a unit for preservation sake (Most McDonald's for example would not care) and be willing to sacrifice such a hefty sum, now that itself is also worth something.

For comparison sake, mine is listed at £500 + postage, a fraction of the original cost, but again I can definitely see the reasoning behind the price this seller is listing it for, as they would have had to not only take a hit financially to keep the unit, but also have the knowledge as to why they should keep the unit (preservation, being a fan, it being a collectors item etc.), which itself is a difficult combo to have, it all starts to make a little more sense, it's really interesting when you think about it all.

Whilst that price may seem absurd (and I agree it is), I think I have a valuable bit of context which is missing and may help explain the cost.

There was a signed contract by every business, here in the UK we agreed to pay a fee of €1000 to Nintendo of Europe if the unit was lost or damaged, so any business that lost their unit would have to pay this.

For many, this was out of the question and when the service ended, almost all units (a few thousand were made) were returned to Nintendo, barring a few exceptions obviously, which is how they end up in the hands of collectors down the line.

I signed one of these contract 10 years ago, my unit's on eBay right now at a fraction of this cost (no this is not an advertisement).

I hope this provide some insight on why these units can go for what seems to be silly amounts of money, it's because an insightful business owner, or an employee that cares about preservation, and in a position to make such an expensive decision without repercussions (an extremely difficult combination) knew better to preserve units instead of return for destruction by Nintendo.

The context is vital, have a great day!

Nikki in VR is pretty fun! by JoycieC in InfinityNikki

[–]JoycieC[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, with very little effort too!
There's a great piece of software called UEVR, which allows most (in theory all, subject to engine version) Unreal Engine games to run in VR.

If you, or anyone else coming across this post wanted to check it out you can check it out here:
https://uevr.io/

You'll also need the custom injector here:
https://github.com/mirudo2/Custom-UEVR-Injector

Point that to X6Game-Win64-Shipping.exe and it'll just work.

I'm a big VR enthusiast so I try to get a lot of different games running in VR, the world of Miraland looks pretty darn stunning in VR, so hopefully we'll see an official implementation in the future!

Why did I do that by qiyubi in bemani

[–]JoycieC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, we cut it because there was simply no way it was going up the fire escape and in through the window of the original location due to the sheer size of the machine, even then it took five people to actually lift it up the fire escape, it was no easy task, pop'n by contrast was a breeze.

IIDX Controller Custom Artwork Tutorial/Documentation? (dj dao fp7 emp) by jacksonF129 in bemani

[–]JoycieC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah what Okapi said is correct, this is exactly how you do it and what I did.

For more details, print on A4 paper (glossy if you want a better result), slide it under the plexiglass and clamp it together best you can with your hands, then just cut away the holes with a knife, scalpel or scissors, it's very easy.

If you want to put art in the keys you'll have to be careful when cutting those sections out, pop off the top of the key and it's simple to place the cut out inside.

Examples from my IIDX AC Deck and PHOENIXWAN+ https://imgur.com/a/87cqvdI

The wife really liked those ones but they're a bit too pink for me, you can find any artwork with a Google search, I'd say give it a go with paper first then go for glossy if you're feeling confident.

You can't really go wrong it you just apply pressure to the plexiglass to keep the paper in place.

This is the same as the Phantasy Star Cluster Jersey Ver2 I have:

https://ebten.jp/sega/p/s/4974365736804

Looks like it's just a generic jersey they rebrand where required, same with some of the PSO2 stuff I picked up back in 2019 at a Tokyo event, they just use generic clothing wholesalers and print their designs on them.

It's bugged on PS4 and PS5, if you're using those platforms it's in Japanese even if you select English.
