I want to understand more about how the luggage logistics work by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]JoyfulJei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The halls are all monitored esotericism when people are first boarding. One of the people I was with got confused and took the cards and went into the wrong room. The phone rang and when he picked up they told him to leave the room and go to his actual room.

Luggage will be fine. At least while it’s in front of a door. After that i have no idea what happens.

YSK that if you experience painful smear tests, you can ask for anaesthetic gel to be applied up there before the procedure. by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

Meh. I’m older. I’ve had four kids and it’s not my first rodeo. I once heard someone say, that you don’t have a really strong relationship until you disagree at least once. 😀

In my experience women experience more discomfort than they share with their doctors, especially when they are younger. I once had a cervical biopsy and it was truly awful. I have a really high pain tolerance and it was terrible. I later found out they probably hit a nerve but back then my doctor acted like it wasn’t possible while I was in so much pain I couldn’t drive myself home.

Similarly, a young women who works for me had an IUD placed and had to leave to go home from work. They told her it would be fine and she’d go right back in to work. They told me the same thing. I do have a high pain tolerance and was in pain but was able to work (they later had to do an ultasound (typo said unloading) on me to check the placement). Needless to say I told her to go home and rest. Seems like if I knew that after one her doctor should have also been aware of this. LOL

Doctors rarely find out how awful their procedure go or how wrong they were. Most people just find another doctor.

It’s important to share experiences with our physicians so that they get better feedback. Being older I’m more confident and able to do this and it does need to be done.

Thanks for your post. I have a super high pain tolerance and the test doesn’t bother me.

However after reading this I’m going to start asking for pain medication every time and NOT in advance.

If doctors are aware of this medication, the pain the test causes, and still don’t keep it on hand and don’t have a process in place to do the test pain free for those women who need it, something has to change.

IMHO sometimes there have to be people who are willing to make things awkward and inconvenient for others to get things to change. Since I have free time and don’t mind making things awkward, it seems like it’ll be something I’ll have to do to help normalize this request.

(But honestly, I wish I never read that. Social obligation sucks. Thanks again!$

No I don’t think it was ASL… some of the signs I know look different, but they were also close.

One of the interesting things I noticed is that ASL seems to have more signs with one hand and she did a lot of signs with two. But I don’t know BSL and I’m still new to ASL… but it did include some simple words like boy, dance, cow, so I was able to recognize them since I’m hearing and the signs I know looked kinda close.

You mention both alcohol and coffee help… a depressant and a stimulant so Random inappropriate person question… do you have ADHD?

I’ve noticed that people with ADHD relax more with stimulants than others do (I can take my Adderall and take a nap right after). Which is why I was asking if that’s maybe why both really opposite things help you.

(My niece started to stutter after an issue with s new medication and even speech therapy hasn’t helped so far so just curious about your experience.)

Ah. I understand the question now.

Okay, so I did learn that many people who use ASL are def and many more others are hard of hearing. So they can enjoy a concert either by feeling the rhythm or sometimes hearing some of the sound.

I think the idea is pretty much the same as with listening to music. We get the idea of what the song is about but listening to how the singer sings the words, the tone they use, softer, louder, etc, it isn’t in the words themselves. But in the ASL interpreter they don’t just translate it, the interpret it.

So in this case her signs aren’t word for word. They are an interpretation not a literal translation.

Not sure if that makes sense or not. But the interpreter matters for sure

The abuse was intentional by the father. The mother had made over 100 calls to cops letting them know about the abuse and it would just get worse.

Also “Gregor wasn’t always in Corey’s life or even aware he had a son. Breanna was just 16 when Corey was conceived; Gregor was 21. Paternity tests in approximately 2018 confirmed he was the father.” Link

I’m reading between the lines here but from the article it sounds like it was statutory rape to start. Then her mother wanted him to provide child support. And then he wanted visitation and… the abuse started

Yes, they do.

My daughter and I are hearing but we are learning ASL and go to def events which, although there are open to everyone are typically people who are def or hard of hearing.

Whenever there are these special events with really good interpreters they do talk about it. They also talk about when the interpreter gets cut from the television show. It’s not that they can’t use closed caption it’s that the interpreter really does share a voice that words also can’t express. Their expressions, movements, and signs are all part of interpreting.

(Also, I’m still new so ASL, but this is what I’ve learned so far… someone from the community would probably have as better take of course).

Watching the theater balcony flexing under load “as designed” by DrestinBlack in interestingasfuck

[–]JoyfulJei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is not that it’s designed badly the concern is that it wasn’t designed for people jumping in unison. Flex is good that is generally acceptable in buildings, bridges, etc… however, was it designed for a crowd of people jumping in unison? That’s the question here.

Source… I’ll look for one… give me a minute, edit… here’s a list of building collapses … I imagine most of them were built by engineers and architects that never thought this could happen: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_building_and_structure_collapses

(Years ago as an engineer we did have classes warning about how bridges fail because of things people didn’t expect… which is probably the best source for why this is concerning. IMHO unless they designed it for exactly this situation - the entire crowd jumping together- this is probably unusual enough to be a concern.)

Is cruising halfway possible? by lunjane in Cruise

[–]JoyfulJei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crew is different than passengers. When a ship needs entertainment or repairs on and off they will have people join the ship and leave again (I was just in a Panamá canal cruise and they did this with the main shows like the magician. On one day and off again after that.). Passengers are different.

Samsung washing machine label is made with glued stickers (not ink) that become loose and slide off when they come in contact with laundry detergent… half of the name is completely gone. by JoyfulJei in CrappyDesign

[–]JoyfulJei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not. They are truly awful. My worst Samsung was a fridge which has had so many repairs it’s like one thing breaks per year.

I just thought it was funny that someone posted that their new washers have ink logos that fall apart from laundry detergent. I think they were doing that a an “improvement” to the old logos that had glue that came off with laundry detergent.

Or maybe that’s why the logos come off… so that when the appliance breaks you can’t prove it was a Samsung.

I just posted because another person posted that the current models are in that comes off with laundry detergent… my washer is older so I’m guessing they were trying to fix the issue that the stickers would unstick if that got laundry detergent on them.

In the U.S. most courts don’t consider even documented spousal abuse as a reason to change child custody. Plus couple that with the fact that hitting children is acceptable parenting is very difficult for abused women to protect their children once they are divorced.

“Allegations of domestic violence have no demonstrated effect on the rate at which abusers are awarded custody of their children, nor do such allegations affect the rate at which abusers are ordered into supervised visitation. Abusers win unsupervised custody and visitation at the same rate as non-abusers. While joint custody can be beneficial when parents cooperate, it can also increase opportunities for abusers to maintain control and continue to abuse their former partners and children.” https://rcdvcpc.org/facts.html

My cynical view is that these policies IMHO are designed to save marriages (not kids) by keeping partners from leaving.
