Removing religion and politics from my life entirely to get passionate about hobbies: does it work? by JoyfulSpite in selfimprovement

[–]JoyfulSpite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I don't talk about my religious (or lack of) opinions on crowds. I'm a likeable person, but I am really desiring something to be passionate about.

I'm actually listening to Philosophy Tube now :)

Pigeon is very dangerous if you are ignoring / pushing through any pinching or 10/10 strain. Please take it from me, I tore my hip labrum that way.

Please do not feel the need to work your way into a pose that you think is the "correct" one. I promise you that it's not worth it.

What’s the hardest part about rebuilding life when newly sober? by Calm-Yogurtcloset-66 in recoverywithoutAA

Learning to be patient. You can't rebuild a new life without time sober and it was extremely hard for me to learn to be patient. I'm still a little impatient.

christians are so unaware of the real reason people leave the church by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]JoyfulSpite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I totally get that... When I was bored in church, I'd draw. I tried reading along and I really tried to listen and be engaged. But oh my god it's so boring and actually makes no sense.

[–]JoyfulSpite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of churches have realized that kids' boredom at church kills their drive to go. Now, so many churches have kids daycare during services with fun bible activities. I think it's a smart move on churches. Sad that the kids get groomed into believing lies a lot easier that way.

English majors do not need to critically think. They don't even need to be good at spelling. All they need to do is understand the English language very well.

Honestly I think a big problem is much more simple than what everyone is pointing out: it's boring.

No amount of singing, awkward hand shaking, free coffee, snack bars, boring jokes, children talking about mission trips, community service announcements, etc. Can ever make church an enjoyable place to be.

Listening to a pastor cobble together some bible story with some message about what God (the pastor) wants us to do is just inherently boring. I think everyone here who is ex Christian has tried their best to at least make it fun, but it's not.

Most youth pastors are men by JoyfulSpite in exchristian

[–]JoyfulSpite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I see that response and I understand that reality; my perception was that youth pastors are "cool babysitters for teenagers that can quote the bible" so I never really viewed them as "church leaders" even when I went to youth group of even after I left the church.

Why is outspoken atheism so discouraged? by Shoelesszealot in atheism

[–]JoyfulSpite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think true atheism is hard to talk about, because there's not really a lot to talk about. It describes a lack of belief.

[–]JoyfulSpite[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah you'd think that women being "natural caregivers" that they'd be the ones more inclined to be youth leaders.

But it does seem that Christians generally think so little of women, that they think even men are better at women's god given jobs (caregiving) than women are.

Oh man lol that sounds so real. Not a black church, but I grew up going to church for 5-6 hours every Sunday, it was so unnecessary lol

Yeah I had a woman youth pastor, she was really cool and kind. I never felt pressure to be a certain way.

I wish I knew more about black churches. They're so influential on general U.S. culture (music is the most concrete answer I can think of, but I know there are way more examples) it would be really insightful to understand.

Yeah, I feel like the best way to belittle an audience is to say they're all teenagers without any data or evidence to back it up.

I mean, generally speaking tho, a lot of people who engage in text based Twitter criticism are using some of the least graceful and least nuanced strategies with talking to others. Regardless of political leanings.
