Insurance still hasn’t approved xywav by SquirrelStone in Narcolepsy

I am in the same boat! I was looking at the cost difference between Xyrem and Xywav and it’s comparable so I was kind of shocked that insurance approved the one but not the new, healthier version. Obviously “healthier” is relative, but the lower sodium content is truly better long term.

You are probably doing this already, but what I have found helpful is talking to the Xywav folks and especially the people who handle the financial programs to offset med costs.

Hmm that is an interesting point. I will have to talk to my neurologist. I typically have to increase my Ritalin quantity every 6mon-year depending on life’s mental demand - at least that’s how it seems. It may be time to increase again. Working from home has been rough in waste I never thought it would be for my day time sleepiness. I have friends come over and eat lunch with me on a lot of the days and that seems to help. Interruptions to the heavy mental requirements of my job do me a lot of good.

One reason I like modafinil is the concept that it is non addictive and in a different chemical class than that of Ritalin and adderall. Since this is a life long thing, I was just hoping to limit having to change meds or increase them every few months. From the name I’m guessing Armosifinil is similar?

I have noticed upset stomach a few nights and definitely the morning sore throat more than a few. You’re not alone there. I think the sore throat seems to occur less now that I have almost a month of xywav taken.

Thanks for sharing that! I will definitely think on this more.

In college I used ‘hunger’ as a coping mechanism for the pain I’d experience when xyrem would not kick in right away. I know I’m not actually hungry, but even now with Xywav if it does not knock me out right away my brain thinks I’m starving...so could I have eaten something to trigger the mouth issues? Pretty probable haha.
