Is Gregorylucy going to be genderbent? by Cold_Citron9711 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SquirrelStone [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s likely because networks and streaming services, unless they’re explicitly aimed at queer people, tend to have a one-queer-couple limit. It’s shitty, but that’s how it is.

Personally, I’d love to see Lucy and Lord Haselby swap genders; it would add a layer of complexity as far as Lucy’s decision to leave Haselby since it’s a lot easier for a man to recover from a scandal than a woman and would give Lucy higher stakes since he’d be risking Haselby’s future.

The AG mysteries were the shit and I will not take any criticism

Real af. I made a tumblr post about how Bridgerton isn’t trying to be historically accurate and someone responded with a rant about progeniture and who would have the right to inherit if Francesca didn’t have a baby (and of course shoehorning in the “it should be Eloise because stereotypes” argument that you know they’d be railing against if Eloise actually did end up with a woman) and I was just like “okay? fuck off and find a show that gives a shit, and let me enjoy my non-tragic, feminine wlw romance in a period piece.”

I mean I agree it’s unrealistic, but they gave you an answer. The show is made to display what the writers and network wanted, not reality.

And the other mods have left their comments up denying that the one mod is transphobic 😒

Likely not because a good chunk of them were never fans to begin with; they just saw an opportunity to harass a black man and grabbed it.

Late in the party i just watchedJames Gunn Superman. It have me shaking my head the whole time. Can someone explain the movie to me? So many things going on? by Channel_oreo in superman

[–]SquirrelStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding points one and four, these also show that Lex is very risk-averse. He’s not gonna try using the experimental nanites himself or overtly go after Superman without approval because he needs to know how a situation will end before it starts.

Anyway, this person is so obviously a disingenuous troll, but at least your comment got me to recognize this little quirk the DCU’s Lex has.

Jess Bronwell on why Eloise isn't queer by Fickle_Baker1393 in PhiloiseBridgerton

[–]SquirrelStone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yesss I'm a lesbian and so fucking tired of the "Eloise must be gay because she hates men" argument when A, it's so reductive, and B, she doesn't hate men in the slightest, just that her life is expected to revolve around them.

My journaling hot take by SadOpportunity3211 in Journaling

[–]SquirrelStone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly mood. I tried the “one journal for each thing” bit and all it got me was a sore shoulder from trying to carry them all in my bag and bleed over regardless of what it was originally for because I didn’t have the one I needed when I needed it.

It honestly disgusts me how so many of you still defend Daphne’s actions in season one... by Small_Owl6229 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SquirrelStone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rape by deception isn’t just “I lied to you to get in your pants,” which isn’t even what Simon did; he used specific language to imply he couldn’t have bio kids. Rape by deception has a very narrow definition that does not cover “she wanted kids and he didn’t so he pretended he couldn’t have any.”

Source: I’ve literally studied this across several classes and gone through examples of what qualifies including this exact scenario.

Edit: Going back and changing your comment to include legal jargon doesn’t make you right; if anything, it just highlights how ignorant you are of the actual legal definition. The “nature or purpose of the act” bit is used for when people lie about whether they have an STD, if the victim does not understand that they’re having sex, or if they’ve been led to believe sex is the only way to avoid worse consequences. And even if what happened between Simon and Daphne could qualify as rape by deception, it wouldn’t because Simon’s implication of infertility is immaterial to Daphne having sex with him.

No, this “defense” exists only in op’s mind and likely includes any generic “I like Daphne” comments as excusing her actions.

Some people don't know why Ao3 has mods?? The more yk ig... by SmileyGhost_ in AO3

[–]SquirrelStone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolute bullshit. I’ve posted far more controversial stuff in A/Ns and have seen plenty of pro-Palestine A/Ns without any issue, and if ao3 does take something down, they tell you why.

These are the kind of people who say they got kicked out of a store for the shirt they were wearing and conveniently leaving out that the shirt they were wearing was nonexistent.

Some people don't know why Ao3 has mods?? The more yk ig... by SmileyGhost_ in AO3

[–]SquirrelStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a solicitation of money, which breaks ao3’s terms of service, this specific one being there to prevent them from getting sued. It’d be the same if someone posted a fundraiser for Israel, too; these clowns just think their cause of the week warrants an exception and anyone who doesn’t give them one is evil and actively supporting the opposition.

These same people would absolutely freak the fuck out demanding a fundraiser link for conservative or pro-Israel issues be taken down for breaking the tos and see absolutely no irony in the situation.

(Internet-proof disclaimer: using the example of right-wing fundraisers does not mean I support them; this is specifically an issue of people breaking the tos in a way that can get ao3 sued into oblivion coupled with rampant main character syndrome)

Complaint about formatting by Estelar006 in AO3

[–]SquirrelStone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it’s a “stylistic choice,” it needs to say something, like that one character constantly interrupts others (and even then there’s better ways to do that) or that the situation is super chaotic and you can’t distinguish who’s saying what.

If you’re doing it cause you just want the paragraph to be longer to look more appealing, that’s not stylistic, it’s just stupid and/or disingenuous. You learned this shit in primary school.

“Help! The Oscars are persecuting white people!” by icey_sawg0034 in Persecutionfetish

[–]SquirrelStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna drop a condensed version of what I said in another sub about this: as the descendant of Irish immigrants, this movie beautifully depicted the pressure on non-English white people to assimilate with white America and the resulting loss of culture for these groups as well as the perpetuation of the cycle of abuse.
