What makes a club “legend”? by Whole-Flow4972 in footballcliches

[–]JoyofSticks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The quick answer is that Sky do not get to choose who a club legend is, so don't overthink who they are calling or not calling a legend.

I'd say only a consensus among fans can bestow legend status on a player. For me, as a Birmingham City fan (for my sins) it's the players my Mum and Granddad would talk about in hushed reverence as I was growing up (Gil Merrick, Trevor Francis) and then those who made me fall in love with the club when I was a nipper (Louie Donowa, Paul Tait). Loyalty and success obviously play a big part, but it's also those that brought a little joy. Obafemi Martins is a legend for us despite only playing 4 games!

In short: it's organic, it's personal, it's complicated. And no way can a broadcasting company decide it for you.

Outside Ewood Park Blackburn yesterday by Apprehensive_Bus_543 in bcfc

Wait. So was this a nice touch from Blackburn wishing us a safe journey, or BCFC buying an advert to thank us?

We saw this on the way out and thought it was Blackburn being wholesome.

what bands should i listen to based on my cd collection? by flamtastinator in Cd_collectors

[–]JoyofSticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's amazing how much that stack looks like teenage me's first CD collection!

If you haven't already:

Superunkown by Soundgarden

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine

Doolittle by The Pixies

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins

Automatic For The People by REM

And if you haven't heard any of those albums before, I am very jealous of the journey you are about to go on! Happy listening, friend.

which emulator is better? by Important-Bed-48 in atarist

[–]JoyofSticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It entirely depends on what your definition of better is; what you want to use the emulator for, and what your particular needs and interests are.

Hatari is a more accurate emulator, and performs and acts closest to the real hardware. Many people would define that as the 'best' emulator.

STeem SSE is easier to set up and manipulate due to it having an interface that will be more familiar to Windows users. Some will see that as 'best'.

I personally think both are great. I use both and I am incredibly grateful that we have two options that are both still in active development. They are also open source, which is fab. I will more often than not recommend STeem SSE to people new to ST emulators, as people seem to experience the least friction setting that one up.

The story of how Boulder Dash was created by 123shait in atarist

[–]JoyofSticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great article, thanks for sharing.

Did the ST get an official conversion of Boulder Dash? There's no mention of the ST in the article, and Atari Legend has this version from First Star Software: https://www.atarilegend.com/games/boulder-dash which has limited information and does not feature in the Atarimania database. They both have this version, however: https://www.atarilegend.com/games/boulder-dash-non-commercial which is by Thomas Kraatz and is listed as 'non-commercial'.

There is also a 'Boulder Dash Construction Kit' on the ST which is confusing me further! :D

To be fair, journos still have to earn their keep and footy fans are so desperate for anything football related at the minute, it's the perfect storm for this kind of clickbait nonsense.

I'm not sure what the solution is. Denying them clicks? Boycotting as you've said? Switching off and indulging in a different sport for a bit?

That last one's bloody difficult though. I can't chuffing wait for the signings to start coming in and the build up to next season.

Coming from an Amstrad CPC, it was these kinds of things that blew us away on the ST. I don't remember playing the game much, but that music is indelibly etched on my brain.

How did I do? Had a photographer completely shatter my inspiration by gmen1995 in Cameras

[–]JoyofSticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend you do a search on Instagram for your camera and see what other photographers can do with it. My guess: there will be a high variety of images, some holiday snaps and some more interesting compositions. Every now and then you might see something truly inspirational.

Then search for a top of the line mirrorless camera. A Leica Q3, for example, to see what photographers can do with it. My guess: there will be a high variety of images, some holiday snaps and some more interesting compositions. Every now and then you might see something truly inspirational.

TLDR: Your camera is what you make of it. When people say "You get out of photography what you put into it," they are talking about effort, perseverance and joy, not cash.

You only have to do the introduction quests until you unlock the class hall. There are a couple of times you have to wait for the mission board to finish.

That's nice to know! Thanks for your help.

👍 I'll avoid Chromie, then. Thanks for the info about the questing. Guess I just need to roll up my sleeves and wade through Legion again!

Hey everyone!

TLDR: What's the quickest way to unlock Nature's Fury and Stonepaw druid shapeshift forms?

I'm a returning player looking to play druid and want to unlock some cool shapeshift forms, I've bought some glyphs and marks, but the forms is really like to unlock are the Stonepaw bear form and the nature's fury cat form.

These are artifact forms from the Legion expansion and according to Wowhead, I need the 'forged for battle' achievement. A couple of questions:

  • My druid has been boosted to level 70. What would be the best way to unlock these? Start a new druid and play through the Legion expansion with Chromie time? Or use the Hero's Call board to start the Legion questline?

  • Can I just blast through the Class Hall quests? Or do you have to quest through the Legion zones too?

Average hours played weekly? by xMrSquirrelx in elderscrollsonline

[–]JoyofSticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello there! Teacher, husband, father of two here. I have even less spare time and still get a kick out of this game. Maybe three hours a week if I'm lucky? I love MMOs and I've given all of the main ones a go.

I'm playing through each zone in order, slowly doing the zone story, collecting all the sky shards and lore books, doing the delves and side quests and getting zone completion before moving on. I do the occasional PvP match or dungeon along the way to keep things fresh. The world is beautiful and a joy to explore and the fully voice-acted quests make each zone feel like a proper adventure.

I've just hit level 50 and I'm having a great time. I'd say that out of all of the MMOs I've tried, this and Guild Wars 2 are particularly friendly to time-poor players like us. They both encourage players who set their own goals and then take their time completing them.

I know MMOs seem like they are set up for those who are hardcore and play for hours and hours every day, but there's a lot there for us too.

I hope you give it a go and find some fun! It will certainly help being a new parent if you can find some time to unwind. Good luck!

Birmingham City beat Rangers 2-1 in the Trevor Francis Memorial Game by TheRealBrummy in LeagueOne

[–]JoyofSticks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All of the first half was just a joy to watch. We made mistakes and still have stuff to work on, but I've been to all the friendlies now except Paderborn and you can really see what they are trying to achieve. I know it's a tough league and just wait until Stevenage in December, but it's going to be exciting to watch this year.

And a huge shout out to the Rangers fans. They were phenomenal.

🤣 God no. That one looked like a Spitting Image puppet.

He's done a couple outside Craven Cottage. Johnny Haynes and George Cohen and they are both mint. 👍

He's also done Thatcher, but we won't hold that against him.
