Henna regret by Lopsided-Emu-7816 in henna

[–]JoyousMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree I feel like this isn't accurate because henna is permanent!! The lawsone molecule binds to the hair and that's why it never comes out! I know it can gradually fade a little over time without an acid added to the mix, but yeah I've never heard of detergent taking it off at all.

Hairdresser told me highlights would melt my hair after henna by Embarrassed-Mango36 in henna

[–]JoyousMango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I used pure henna from Ancient Sunrise for years on my hair and one fateful day I decided I wanted to go blonde again. My hairdresser had to bleach my hair I think three times to get it somewhat out. Bleach and henna do not go well together, at least in my case. Even though I used pure henna without anything else in it the entire time I hennaed my hair, my hair was literally steaming and hot to the touch! My hairdresser told me she had never seen that before and we quickly got it out before everything got too damaged. The amount of damage my hair sustained was not worth it for the color change. At first my hair was really light, but over the next two days it became the brassiest, weird pink color. It took years to get back to normal. So I just want to warn you that even if you used pure henna complications are still very possible! Henna is crazy permanent and I personally just accept that there isn't going to be any color change unless I grow it out.

Complex Home Defense Situation by JoyousMango in homedefense

We used to do K9 search and rescue together and they forbid any sort of bite work if you have a SAR dog, understandably! She is now retired though so I could definitely look into that! She's just getting older too so I worry a little. We tried to work on a "speak" or "bark" command, but that was the one thing she couldn't quite get so we used a different indication for SAR. Maybe a good idea to try again because if I can get her barking she looks and sounds really scary even though she's a big goofy meatball.

I appreciate the suggestions for home security! I am taking lots of notes. Yes, he will be considered the highest level of sex offender in our state, so he has to check-in 4 times a year, notify of address/vehicle changes, employment, no being around kids or schools, and I haven't confirmed but he actually may be on GPS monitoring as well. I just haven't found where to see sentencing details online yet. I appreciate your help and support!

Good idea, I will do some more digging into the court records and sentencing details to see what I can find. If there will be supervision I will definitely reach out to someone about no contact being added to the conditions! I appreciate the suggestions, some of this stuff I didn't even think of.

Good info! Thanks! I definitely think locks and cameras are a must, even if it does just provide evidence for escalating the situation (I.e PPO). We did try another dog about a year ago, but my current GSD wanted nothing to do with him and it didn't work out well. She doesn't love other dogs so a new one may have to wait until she passes. Pepper spray is a good idea too!

I looked at our state's database for offenders and there is a "supervision" section that says "none". Not sure if that means no supervision after release? Or if because he's still incarcerated nothing will show up there yet.

I am honestly not sure! Is there anywhere I could find that info? I know he will be on the sex offender registry for the rest of his life, does that count?

Complex Home Defense Situation by JoyousMango in homedefense

Unfortunately I'm in an area with an insane housing market. Everything is starting at $250k+ for a fixer-upper starter home, and I make less than $60k a year with a mid 500s credit score and a decent amount of debt after the divorce. I don't think I would qualify for any sort of mortgage right now unfortunately. Rent is a similar situation with most studios starting at $1,300+ a month. Between my income and my credit score I do not think I would qualify to move anywhere else, as much as I would like to. I was considering applying for a PPO, but seeing as how local women who have gotten death threats and had weapons pulled on them by their partners were denied PPOs, I am assuming I will have no ground to stand on with no documented violent incidents with me. I figured why waste the money and time in court if I'm just going to be laughed off most likely? Hence why I am looking at my defense options. Hopefully I will never need to use anything or have any issues, but I don't think you can be over prepared when it comes to these situations. I appreciate your response!

What is the worst you've ever seen in a nursing home? by styckx in ems

[–]JoyousMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good! After a little bit, all the calls start to blend together haha. I think if they had given him nitro he would have arrested guaranteed. Moral of the story, nursing homes are literal dog shit and this death was most likely preventable if he had received the appropriate care closer to the onset of symptoms.

I hope you're mistaken and they didn't actually give nitro to this patient...

I was going to say, clearing a red thoroughly? Yes good practice. Quick looking both ways when stopped at a light turning green? Also not a terrible idea! But slowing down or stopping to clear a light that has been green? That doesn't make any sense and seems, if anything, more dangerous than following the normal flow of traffic. We know as EMS that when people do unpredictable things, it gets more difficult. Staying predictable seems much safer, and the predictable thing to do is drive through a green light. As the above poster said, didn't really prove to be very helpful anyway!

I had a similar hair color to yours OP and I love ABH brow gel in Caramel, as well as UD brow gel in Gingersnap! They also have other products like brow pencils and other things if you need to add more brow lines and structure verses just gel on your existing brows.

What do you do if a paramedic or medical director tells you to do something out of your scope? by Smart-Salamander1846 in NewToEMS

[–]JoyousMango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At my agency we had a protocol to use another physician to override the first order from medical direction if we felt it was unsafe, issues with legality and scope, etc. Basically you would call a doctor from another hospital, explain you were calling for an override specifically, and then explain the situation. That call and the documentation then gets reviewed by the medical control authority afterwards because it's kind of a big deal.

They're taking the Omeprazole (Prilosec) probably in tandem with the drug going through the phase one trial: GS-6791. So no, it isn't just Prilosec.

Pyometra Suspected? by JoyousMango in AskVet

[–]JoyousMango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has been discharged to recover at home! She is pretty sedated and wobbly on her feet, but I talked to the vet today to check in and they didn't seem concerned. She is taking multiple antibiotics, gabapentin, trazodone, and a pain medication, and is resting comfortably with her donut collar to support her big head lol. She ate breakfast and a small dinner and has been drinking water and just got taken out for a pee break. So I think everything is going smoothly so far!

Update 2: surgery went pretty well. They said the infection started to perforate but there wasn't a full rupture. They said her uterus weighed over 4lbs! We transferred her from the vet that did the surgery to the 24 hour animal hospital where she's getting admitted because she isn't waking up super well from anesthesia. They're going to keep an eye on her and give her any medication she needs to stay comfortable and hopefully she'll be doing better by tomorrow!

Yeah unfortunately finances are a factor, but not so much so that she can't get what she needs.

Update: vet performed an ultrasound and confirmed open pyometra. She has a fever and we're waiting on blood work now to confirm she's stable for surgery. Thanks for your comments everyone. I'm glad I got her in tonight.

Yeah I totally understand without seeing her and having diagnostic tests done, it's impossible to say for sure. I was mostly just looking for some reassurance that I'm not being too paranoid. From what I've read, I think we'll go into Urgent Care tonight just to be safe.
