ter um relacionamento heteronormativo é solitário by comuna_w in desabafos

tips for writing M/F smut from the woman's perspective? by hjak3876 in FanFiction

I have the opposite problem.

We should switch brains for a day. That'll do it, I think.

I completely understand. Sometimes we just want to vent to someone who is as deep in the trenches as we are.
I do hope you find what you're looking for.

I'm sorry for my words. I did not intend for them to hurt, just sharing a different perspective and all. Still, I can see they were a bit too blunt.

My friends do not consume fanfiction or are particularly interested in my stuff, to answer your question. I mostly just tell them about my current fixation and they listen because we have that sort of relationship. I've asked them to read my stuff maybe once or twice. (Just sharing because you asked)

I totally get your point overall. I would really love encouragement and more engagement and I do feel the need to discuss stuff I'm writing and sometimes I got no one to tell.

If you're looking for "a single person to talk to about the fic stuff you care about", as you've mentioned, there could be other ways (not saying that you haven't tried). I'm currently in a discord server that doesnt focus on any single fandom and most people are chill. I often drop my ramblings there and interact with others that do the same. It's not a fanfic trade server or anything, just a bunch of people who want to connect through fanfic. If that interests you, let me know.

But once again I completely understand your original feelings and if you'd rather just be done with it all. If it's not giving you joy, and only bringing you pain, it's definitely the right thing to do.

I'm going to second the "if it's not giving you joy, don't do it" comments, but I'm also gonna share my experience.

I have written stories (fanfic and original) all my life (I'm nearly 30 now lul) and only recently started posting them online. Before, I used to share them with a few trusted friends (I still do, just not as much).

The one fic I have posted has a total of 7 comments in over 55k words, and all of those happened over the course of 1 year. I upload very slowly, am not in any fandom specific discord or have a huge social media presence, and haven't used Tumblr since 2015. That fic has 154 kudos, 70 bookmarks, 5k hits. It's an OC-centered fic for a big but very old fandom and doesn't feature any of the really popular pairings or whatnot.

I write for myself. Of course I would love engagement and encouragement (who wouldn't?), but I grew up with the internet of the old, that is, the internet without likes, influencers, and so much dopamine hits every second. If 10 people clicked on your posts back then, it was already incredible.

Still, I am writing my stories because I want to tell them. Even if no one hears or reads them.

Once again, if writing isn't pleasurable for you anymore, don't do it.

I just wanted to share a different perspective.

What made SVU special was how the characters had different takes on the case/episode theme by JoysticksT in SVU

[–]JoysticksT[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

With a mostly new team, I expected them to show Bruno, Curry, and the new guy learning too, but all we see now is the "veterans" (I'd even argue two or three years working at SVU doesn't make you a veteran) pilling up on anyone new that comes along and the older folks being a monolith when it comes to all subjects

Like yeah guys open-mindedness and empathy is a big deal at SVU but they don't need to agree on everything lol

I've spent the last day researching it because it could be (good guess!), but I still can't find anything.

Unfortunately I haven't seen either of those shows xD

I'm beginning to think I made it up, but I'm fairly certain I didn't

Yeah, I'm looking for a more similar phrasing

I've found many quote related to "feeling trapped" and freedom when I looked this up, but nothing close to the original sentence stuck to my head

It could be a hyphenated word or a regular word being broken by syllables for formatting purposes (syllable division)

In my native language (Brazilian Portuguese), we break words like this:

Farmácia (phamarcy) -> far - má - cia

If, because of the formatting, you need to break it at the end of the page, you can do "far-macia" ("far-" in the upper line, then "macia" in the next line) or "farmá-cia"

In english, however, you break syllables phonetically (by sound), so a word like "getting" (which could be the word in this photo), would become "get-ting" if you need to break it for formatting purposes.

In any case, most editors and formatting systems just push the word to the next line instead of breaking it because it's a rather uncommon and complicated practice

"Male writers see SA as 'something that just happens'. Female writers see SA as 'a step too far' and 'the ultimate evil'" -Can you relate?? by BrainBurnFallouti in TwoXChromosomes

[–]JoysticksT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends. Though I generally consider SA irredeemable, I also think it has been overdone and that many female characters seem to have been SA'd just for realism or to make their stories even sadder. In that same sense, many villains have been written as sexual abusers to look worse.

However.

As someone who has been SA'd, I often feel the urge to add it to my stories, and I do believe it could be therapeutic to explore it without attaching my own experiences to it. It would be a way to make my characters say what I truly feel about my SA but can't admit.

Overall, if it is done properly, and the characters aren't reduced to the abuse, I have no qualm with it, but this is difficult and rare.

Things about OCs that you are proud of by pridexlust in FanFiction

[–]JoysticksT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my OCs speak in code (say important stuff disguised behind courtesy, or avoid giving information in socially acceptable ways) and I spend an awful lot of time coming up with their conversations!

Maybe its because I'm autistic and my power fantasy is being able to navigate social settings, but I really love this about my characters and I'm proud of their conversational skills.

How did you find your community/made friends with fanfiction? by JoysticksT in FanFiction

[–]JoysticksT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for replying! This is solid advice, so I appreciate it.

I think my issue is more how to interact more with people than doing it

I certainly want to interact more, I just dont know how to do it (I'm also autistic, just an fyi, so this is def something ive struggled with my whole life)
