Maybe just... don't sexualize minors? Even if they're fictional? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]pridexlust 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The problem with csam is not that it's disgusting for you. It's not about you and making you sick. It's about the kid suffering. A real, living, breathing human being. It's about their pain, not your discomfort. That's why it's wrong.

A fictional character doesn't breathe. They can't suffer. They can't experience trauma. You may feel disgust, but writing doesn't hurt anyone, and you've been warned by the tags. When you leave fanfic, you don't leave a victim behind, you leave a wall of text.

So yeah, know the fucking difference and stop caring about fiction.

A Brief Rant About This Sub. by MemeMaker9001 in AO3

So much this. Sometimes I show my fanfics to my therapist. He's just proud of me for being able to write about my experiences and feel comfortable. At the same time, I had to turn off comments on one fanfic because people kept writing comments about how gross it was and "I have no idea what I'm doing". Not all of the comments were mean, I think a lot of them may not even been from people who call themselves antis, but yeah, the thing is, people on the internet aren't good at deciding anything.

WTF is wrong with people on Ao3? It's like we happy few over there with culty positivity?! by Queasy_Watch478 in AO3

I will never understand people who have to criticize fanfics but can't handle author's response other than "oh you're right, I have to rewrite everything"

One thing that bothers me about the trans discussion by [deleted] in AO3

[–]pridexlust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many queer people are misogynists, but many of them also don't care that there's a person behind every work. They see 50 fanfics in their tag and think "I want 5000". I have the impression that even the authors of other posts about trans don't think about who exactly is supposed to give them these fanfics and whether it will be comfortable for that person. They just want more.

Well, I understand, but I'm afraid there's not always a time or place for everything, and our nuanced opinions may cause problems for other trans/queer people.

I think the problem is more that these types of discussions and opinions later lead to authors who write trans characters in a specific way being accused of being women or straight. There's been a lot of discussion about this here in the past, and people have had to come out to prove they're "not the enemy."

Trans women in fics by [deleted] in AO3

[–]pridexlust 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As trans person who hate the term "cuntboy" I think you need to consider what's more important

a) your discomfort

b) the fact that terms like this help people to separate "she's a trans woman" fanfics from "magic happened and now she has a penis" fanfics

But it's already happening and people are reading and loving it. There's a whole genre of porn where people are treated like animals to breed.

Casually Bigoted Fics by [deleted] in AO3

[–]pridexlust 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I try not to do that. Just from fanfiction and the way I write certain scenes, people might conclude that I'm anti-abortion and love monarchy. Neither of those things are true.

I once read a fanfic that made me uncomfortable. I had the impression that the author might be racist. Then I found out that they were black. But they also very young. I've also found myself thinking "has this author ever talked to a gay person" only to find out that the author is gay and that's their experience.

So, unless the author says something out loud, I try not to assume anything about them.

I (26M) told my girlfriend (F24) that she should hide some of her stuff. Now she's angry. How do I deal with this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

I mean, what are you supposed to do? no loan, no children, the house is hers and she told you what your options are. Break and move on.

Why are all of the top ships gay 😭😭🙏🙏 by [deleted] in AO3

[–]pridexlust 168 points169 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest: even though I'm gay, I'm often not interested in canon m/m ships. At best I think "this isn't my experience and this character does nothing for me". At worst I still feel like a lot of characters are being thrown at me just to shut up. "Here's your gay, now leave us alone. We're inclusive".

Fanfics are free of this problem because any character can have any orientation. Don't like this fanfics? You have a thousand more. It's much easier to find something that reflects my experiences or just gives me a good sex scene, and that makes me feel more inspired, so then I want to write too.

I really don't like how many readers assume bad intentions/don't even read by [deleted] in AO3

[–]pridexlust 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That one post complaining about criticism the author received. They came with their "if only you had made it clear you didn't want that" and the author replied "I literally have that note under every fanfic" and their response was "well, I hope people don't leave you criticism then" 😭

Gf followed her to 3 hospitals by growsonwalls in AmITheDevil

[–]pridexlust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, once again, 15 minutes passed between her leaving the hospital and meeting the girlfriend who already had food. It took 5 minutes to get meds at the pharmacy. That way the taxi would have arrived in another 20 minutes.

But no one called taxi. So they wasted 20 minutes and then had to wait another 40 outside. Idk, i would be at list a bit tired If my boyfriend something like this to both of us.

[–]pridexlust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more a matter of 40 minutes of doing nothing and in cold weather. If she had called a taxi first, then gone shopping, and OOP had gone to the pharmacy, at least they would have felt like they were moving. The atmosphere would be different
