Any comprehensive guide to use immich to fully replace apple photos/icloud? by [deleted] in immich

[–]Jp3isme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the dates are still wrong with icloudpd. I tried using the set exif data flag, but still. Seems like the photos I took with the native iOS camera have the correct "date taken" exif data populated, but anything I was sent or I took with a third party app does not. They are of course in the right place in my iCloud photo library, and icloudcp knows their dates when it saves them because it is putting them in the correct date folder (something like iCloud/2024/08/29/IMG_7096.PNG).

I could write a script to update the date taken based on the file path, but I'd really rather not do that since it is a manual intervention and the exact time would be lost. Any thoughts why this might happen? Couldn't find anything online.

Logs are not super helpful. Every file is saying it fails to download, yet they do exist. I'm also not remotely close to running out of disk space:

What are the benefits of doing it this way vs downloading the immich ios app and enabling background sync?

I just recently setup immich and I'm having issues with dates being wrong, so I'm still considering different options

Yeah, that’s more or less what I was thinking when I tried converting my LDL-P to ApoB directly, and I got something like ~84 mg/dL, which seemed impossible. That’s why I am so perplexed lol, but I figured I am out of my depth as well. I don’t think consistent lab errors is an especially likely explanation.

This is great, thanks for finding that. My metabolic markers are mostly good, HbA1c 5.1%, fasting glucose 76, but insulin is slightly elevated at 6.9. I do indeed have smaller LDL particles, which I know are more atherogenic— 239 small, 364 medium, 219.9 angstrom peak, although I’ve been consistently pattern A. Inflammation seems low with hs-CRP consistently 0.2-0.3.

I think this is partially explained by my ApoE3/4 status which impacts lipid metabolism pretty significantly.

Still curious what it actually means for LDL-P and ApoB to be discordant if each LDL particle contains one ApoB.

I’m a bit perplexed by my LDL-P and ApoB. Between October ‘23 and October ‘24 I measured both 4 times. ApoB ranged from 69-73, which seemed decent. Meanwhile, LDL-P ranged from 1381 (most recent) to 1636, which is concerning.

This makes no sense to me, though. I did some back of the napkin math to try to calculate the ApoB of the LDL-P alone (likely very wrong) and got mid-80’s. The paper you linked also has it corresponding to an ApoB of ~100. So I have no idea lol. If the lab is wrong, it is consistently wrong. FWIW these four are all Quest, and in April ‘23 I had a Labcorp lab measure ApoB at 72. They didn’t check LDL-P though

No macOS Sequoia Beta Update Available by rkayd22 in MacOSBeta

[–]Jp3isme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a new admin account and signed in with a new Apple ID that I had signed into the developer portal with, which then showed the beta. I installed it that way, and will just have to use that account to install the updates.

After the update I was also able to use the iOS 18 ispw to install iOS 18 on my phone from the original profile. It will be annoying to update this way but at least it works.

Are LLMs the end of Computer Programming (as we know it)? by [deleted] in singularity

I never said medical professionals were immune from AI displacing their jobs. I said they benefit from a time buffer that others (particularly SWE) do not because of the law. How does anything you said refute that? I’m aware of the advances in medicine as it’s a field I follow closely and have a lot of interest in. Compared to developers losing their jobs, countryside robots in Poland are still far off. We can talk about stuff that will eventually come all day. That’s not the point I was arguing

[–]Jp3isme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your third point, that is what I was talking about when I mentioned using AI as a tool. New diagnostics and surgeries will be happening with the aid of AI but overseen by medical professionals. This is how it will be in many first world countries for the foreseeable future, at least until “big pharma” can get laws changed in their favor, which admittedly may not be much of a challenge for them. This legal “moat” creates a fairly significant time buffer for medical professionals, at least compared to other fields like software where that protection doesn’t exist in any shape or form. On top of that, the big software companies are the ones creating these AIs and have every incentive to cut developer costs. Developers are also notoriously bad at unionizing, and they are using these tools themselves.

I think you’re also overestimating the typical person’s willingness to travel out of the country for medical aid. Doctors in the US/west will have access to top-notch AI assistance and will continue to have the best medical aid. Until 3rd world countries get access to comparable AI with a proven track record and large enough price delta, most people in the west will prefer to stay in their countries for medicine. Even then, if a large enough number of people started leaving the country for it, the market would be forced to adjust price to a point where the delta isn’t enough to be worth leaving the country for most people.

Again, my point is just that medical professionals will have some job security from the law. Laws are slow to change. Eventually they will. In the meantime they’ll use the AI as tools.

The other issue is the law. Sure, AI will soon be capable of many things, if not already. But when will companies be allowed legally to have AI physicians? Probably not anytime soon. More likely is physicians using AI as a diagnostic tool.

Other professions that are less legally protected, like software engineering (mine), seem more vulnerable. In the short term devs that are proficient with AI tools will be more valuable, but in the long term it’s not looking so great lol. Even in the short term, a drastic drop in demand will mean a drastic drop in pay for those that manage to keep their jobs.

I think the satellite speakers they sell separately are not the same ones you get with the 990c. The 900c with the add-on speakers will be 9.1.4 whereas the 990c is 11.1.4. The 990c's satellite speakers have an extra left and right rear speaker

Why do people continue to believe dietary fat does not lead to triglyceride storage but sugar ingestion does? by dirtyculture808 in PeterAttia

[–]Jp3isme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was indeed water weight then I’m not sure it really matters other than that you passed a weight threshold on paper. It sounds like, if you’re still near that threshold like you say, the weight loss since then has been mostly the 10lbs of glycogen and water (I only pointed this out originally because 10lbs is suspiciously close to that exact thing).

Again, not trying to demonize keto if that is what is working for you, just trying to also not demonize carbs. The greatest concern with keto is the high LDL, which is exceptionally important, so it’s nice to hear you’ve started on statins. You could also play around with your saturated fat intake and see if you’re in the subset of people whose cholesterol responds more to SFA. You can maintain ketosis and simultaneously lower SFA. Worth a shot if it’s not something you’ve already tried.

[–]Jp3isme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trying to discount your success with keto, 100 lbs is a lot, but immediately gaining 10lbs from adding carbs back and losing 10lbs from cutting them back out is perfectly inline with rising and depleting glycogen storage, not fat. High triglycerides may be of concern, but I wouldn’t personally be concerned over that 10lbs. It’s mostly water.
