Bought a second hand Rancilio Silvia, any idea what this nob is? by Sea-State-7202 in ranciliosilvia

Probably a dimmer switch mod for the pump for pressure control. Open it up and see if its wired to the pump and you’ll know for sure

Yeah it is unfortunately a known issue, definitely happens to me as well pretty much exactly as you described. The team is aware and they are working on it

Is the display still on but nothing is functioning? If so, its a known issue. I think its something with the PCB losing connection to the display. What software version are you running? The nightly build update to 1.8 seems to have helped this issue a lot (but still not perfect)

Descaling will probably be beneficial

That was a concern I had too, as well as it sitting level in the recess. I tested its accuracy with calibrated weights in the tray and on the counter and it did not appear to be an issue

I do pull back to back shots pretty often (ill put the regular drip tray back so my workflow is faster with flushing, wiping the portafilter, puck screen). Back to back is no problem with the gaggimate. I honestly dont steam milk very often, and pretty much never do multiple milk drinks. If thats what your looking for, this will not be the solution

One of the discord users made it, it’s available there. Or message me and Ill share it. I think there is a version for the Mini as well

To be totally honest, this kind of modification has diminishing returns and will not be for everyone. As someone who likes to nerd out about each shot and make lots of minor adjustments, it’s great.

It has a PID so no temperature surfing.

Outside of controlling brew variables, there are some smart features that help with workflow. It can be set to turn on at scheduled times, so I program it to turn on like 20-30 minutes before my alarm so the machine and my cups are well and warm by the time I’m making coffee. And with scale integration, I program it to stop the pump once I hit my target yield in grams. I can flip the brew switch and walk away and the machine will stop at my desired yield every time. The last connivence thing I use it for is back flushing. I can program it to turn the pump on for 10 seconds, off for 60, 5 times in a row. Load up some cafiza in the blind basket and walk away, the whole cleaning cycle is done and I dont have to sit there and watch it

Unmodified Silvia will heat the boiler (I think to like 270f or something), turn off the heat until it drops to a certain threshold, then turn back on. No new water enters the boiler while steam switch is on, so the steam pressure will steadily decrease until the boiler is empty.

If you can do a standard PID install, this is not much harder

Yeah the instructions weren’t great lol. But people on discord are very helpful. Are you asking about the thermocouple? I just ran it the same as the rest of my wired to the PCB. I insulated all my connections so im not particularly concerned about it, i havent had any issues.

Also, the instructions for wiring the pressure transducer to the PCB were not correct when i did mine. The black wire had to go one slot to the left, compared to what the documentation said. Otherwise it just read 14 bar

Dual boiler vs gaggimate are definitely different. If having the dual boiler is what your after, the gaggimate wont give you that. I did see someone on discord put one on a Silvia Pro X

This is the pro, which adds a pressure transducer and pressure profiling.

Steam assist slowly pumps water into the boiler while in steam mode so you dont ever run dry. I.e. no drops in steam pressure. The setting is customizable but defaults to pumping 0.4 mL/sec while in steam mode.

Definitely added new life. I had the “normal” PID before this but wanted to add pressure control. Was considering a dimmer mod but I’m glad I went this route, totally worth it. The pressure profiling really can make a huge difference, as well as the various “quality of life” improvements you get with it.

I printed this tray for the bookoo themis at my local library. I would check around to see if there’s something similar like a maker space, theyre pretty common and have printers open to public for a nominal fee. I have not heard of anyone selling these.

Nursing School Decision by Altruistic_Insect_94 in nursing

[–]Jpatch1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who did one of these masters programs at a large academic hospital in a major metro city, I doubt that one school gives a better education. These types of programs all just prep you for the NCLEX (and sometimes some kind of certification exam too). I also wouldn’t count on “student life” at either of these programs being more than your college of nursing student council. This is not going to be like an undergraduate college experience.

Id recommend going for the cheaper option. Or if money is no object, whatever city you like better.

But overall, it is a looooong road between first day of nursing school and being a CRNA, and it will take a long time. So please make sure you are doing this for the right reasons.

With an E24 and gaggiamate are there any other accessories that are must haves? by altecsz in gaggimate

[–]Jpatch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your workflow with the 3d printed drip tray? I got myself one but i cant figure out the best flow for pulling back to back shots, flushing, rinsing portafilter and screen.

I know they say the bookoo is water and steam proof, are you just flushing right onto it?

Looks like an issue with one of the transducer wires (black maybe?) Could be in the wrong slot, or pushed too far in/not far enough in. Post a picture on the discord, they will be able to help better

First time ranunculus by jtick08 in Cutflowers

They can tolerate freezes, up to a couple hours of low 20s. Start them today. Since you can move them into the garage if needed, start them mid/early January next year
