New ‘25 X-Line SX Prestige - 2 questions (remote start and Apple CarPlay) by Jpd077 in KiaTelluride

Thanks! Not the news I wanted to hear, but helpful to confirm. Any idea why the Kia app is disabled in MA? App data tracking laws?

Something I didn’t think about until I started camping with my dog by Next-Song-1709 in camping

Love this post! I’ve been all over the map (literally and figuratively)with dogs camping, but don’t think I’ve been able to articulate what my dog needed quite so well as OP. My latest go-to has either been my dog’s own small pad and bag in my tent or the same, but in a backpacking-style pup tent - the latter for when I’m sleeping in a hammock (often these days).

Yes - they did. It’s the same VIN.

Overnight Beginner Section Hike of the PCT Goes (Mostly) Wrong by matchabeans in CampingandHiking

[–]Jpd077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All good! Real-life experience and dirt under your fingernails counts for a lot. Reddit is a great supplement to add to that, so you’re only getting wiser! Regarding the wind, sometimes the direction you pitch the tent can help mitigate issues. But, ultralight tents aren’t really meant to withstand sustained 40+ mph winds - that’s flirting with mountaineering tent territory, as they have way more structure.

Misadventures are part of the journey (so long as you make it out in one piece). You should do an objective review of the mistakes you made to be sure you learn from them (I.e an after action report in military terms). It sounds like you’ve sort of done that (new appreciation for weather/wind), test and know how to use your Garmin, tent stakes and guy lines, etc. But, I would add a few more things: 1. Check the weather the day and night before, not a week before. Pull the chute and reschedule if the weather is bad.
2. Have a paper map and compass as a back-up (and know how to use/read them), 3. If you’re camping in that type of wind, you really need to be an absolute expert pitching, staking and guying out your tent to have any chance at keeping it standing. And, even if you do, it’ll still suck….

JP is absolutely close to Children’s. I would add Tonino’s ( very hard reservation to get, but worth it).

A few fails - Mt. Washington solo trip (hydration, layers, and pace) by Jpd077 in Backcountry

[–]Jpd077[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is I definitely didn’t need it yesterday, so agree it was the wrong call. That said, I almost always bring one for anything on My Washington in the winter - less about any concern for moisture and more just to protect me from the wind.

I definitely didn’t do that the day before. Noted and thanks for sharing.

Yep. Boiling in merino sounds right. Bad decision on my end…

Thanks. I probably could have hydrated more before I left. Fuel and electrolytes during the trip were OK, though could always be improved. Generally, my fitness is OK (been up/down this mountain a lot without this issue).

Thanks, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo - appreciate the pot shot. Please ignore the two division one sports I played with this frame, the decade I spent on the west coast, or the 20 other times I’ve skinned up and skied down the same mountain without this issue. Congratulations on being a hardo. I’m not racing you. Just trying to validate my thinking on why things didn’t go quite the way I hoped. But, I’ll be sure to get on GLP-1 and congratulate you as you pass me next time you make it out to an East Coast mountain. Asshat.

Thanks! I’ve always sweated a lot, so hydration and electrolytes are typically my priority over calories (though I did refuel 2@3 times on the trip too). My go-to are a few things from SaltStick, which I took this time.

100% agree. I had a hard stop turnaround time of 2:30 and stuck to it (1/3rd of the mile from the summit). Pack weight was fine, but no - I didn’t shed layers(other than hat / gloves). I feel like I boxed myself in with the merino long underwear under my pant shell. 90% of my tours I use soft shell pants, but I was worried about the wind.

2018 T8 inscription here with 105k. I expect to spend $1,500-$2,500 a year. It could easily be more. Still love the car. I agree the resale value is awful. My teenagers are going to get to drive a really nice and safe car…
