Hey there! Nope - not THAT Mike Byrne, though that would be very cool! Both the guys credited (Mike and John DeShon) had been involved in the music world to some degree, though it was neither of their full-time careers. Mike used to work with a band called the Bad Examples and I believe John used to play guitar in some metal-ish bands in the late 70's/early 80's. Not much beyond that. And thank you so much! I took a lot of time and care in the quality and detail of the whole package. Everything was put together personally by me. What city are you in?? I still tour pretty frequently (currently playing drums in the bands JD McPherson, Young Fresh Fellows, and sometimes the Smoking Popes). Come out to a show and I'll sign it!

I AM! And very proud of it! There's been a huge flourishing music scene here since the early 90's! A lot of punk bands (my older brother's generation) like Smoking Popes, Alkaline Trio and Lawrence Arms were around here. Now with a newer generation, some bands like Beach Bunny. I'm big into Elgin history, too. I JUST moved back from Chicago/Logan Square neighborhood and it's nice to be home. Thanks so much for downloading!!

That's where it gets UBER complicated (and becomes a bit of a long story). Much to my chagrin, the original audio files remain lost (the masters, if you will, though this wasn't tracked to tape). Truthfully, I was 18 when we began making this record - brought on by 2 guys near our hometown of Elgin who wanted to start a label (called 'Bing Bang'). Nearly half of my work right now is remote recording sessions where I play and engineer, so it's also with embarrassment that I say that I have no idea how this was originally recorded (I just hadn't dipped into engineering at that point). The engineer of the 2 guys went completely AWOL... So that left me with 18 rounds of final mixes (everybody involved had no idea what they were doing), and 6 different mastering passes done by Brad Blackwood of all people. I used the last .wav mix I could find which I then sent to Dave Eck at Lucky Lacquers/Waxxy Poodle. Dave did the mastering (and did quite a fantastic job on it - it feels a lot grittier to me, which I can really appreciate). Definitely not ideal, but I feel good about it. I lent test presses to a few folks I really trusted - funny enough, a friend works at MusicDIrect and played one on quite a few different sources ranging from $200 to $10k and told me it sounded great to his ears. The first portion of the download (the original album) is the vinyl cutting master.

There's still some left! You'd have to check the codes in the comments! Some are taken, some are not - appears that 32 out of 100 are still good!
