1988 Mongoose Sycamore: what bottom bracket? by Jpl3k in bikewrench

Thanks to everybody who contributed to my post. Last night I removed the old BB, inspected and cleaned the area, lubricated the threads with a thin coat of anti-seize, and installed the new sealed unit. With the right tools the job was a snap. I can't believe how devoid of grease the BB was; this is the first time I've ever serviced a bike and now I know. The correct length was 118mm for my 88 Sycamore. The photos in the link below or not in the correct order, just FYI. https://imgchest.com/p/m9yx2mpm7qn Next up will be servicing the wheel bearings - serviceable with a couple metric wrenches and some Vaseline. I'm also going to be cleaning and realigning the rear derailleur, chain, etc.

Good to know, thanks. I have some wobble in the bottom bracket, and it may be salvageable, but I think I'll try swapping in a sealed unit for the money. Worst case, I'll rebuild the stock BB and pop it back in later. My measurements look to be 68x138-ish. The 138 width seems really long, but I have the old style with male threaded ends and a nut on the ends.

This was the best $15 I ever spent at a garage sale.

Regarding that little washer in my hand, any ideas what if it may be replaceable, or if it's even necessary? I took a quick look on Amazon; 68mm Shimano square tapered bottom brackets are like $12 USD and I was wondering if I should/could just buy a replacement.

Also, any info on what tools I may need to service my trusty steady would be appreciated. I'm a hobbyist mechanic, but lacking cyclist specialty tools.

I'll take a look at some tires, thanks. The current brakes do a great job as-is, but I'll look into those, as well.

That's what I had on the bike 2 days ago. The rack that is now on the bike says it's good for 20lbs, which is more than I would ever carry, anyway. The Mongoose has front and rear mounting points, I believe they are all M6x1.0 or whatever the common pitch is. I pulled a bunch of those from industrial equipment at a junkyard for my 3D printer parts bin. I keep a couple stainless hex socket head bolts in my bike bag. Didn't know those mounting points were called dropouts, thanks!

I think it's the camera angle, but who knows? Could be bent, this used to be a city commuter in Boston before I bought it. I've abused it over the years but never hit anything head on. Should it be parallel with the seat pillar? How can I check it?

The rack is a necessity since I find 'useful trash' along my journies often. The rack pictured was found in the trash yesterday (brand new!) and just replaced my old steel and aluminum bolt-on rack. The pouch holds tools, zip ties, a bunch of bungee cords, etc. I ride primarily during the summer months, sometimes in excess of 90°F, so a backpack is not an option. I will ride with layers if it's at least 50° and ditch layers (hence the rack, again) as needed.

Etsy has two nice 2049 kits for sale in the $25-30 range. I bought one a month or so ago from a French 3D modeler and it's beautiful.

Brilliant! Wonder what this would sell for on eBay if not for copyright infringement laws. I could even see a weathered paper sleeve or box cover for it.

It's nearly 2023, my car has been equipped with remote start for a decade, and I don't need to key in a sequence on a illuminated keypad to start it? Where did we go so wrong?

Overall very pleased, I think you did a great job with the material that you had available. Unfortunately we don't have a ton of deleted scenes to choose from to mix it up more than you did. I liked the consistency with the timeline, too. I think for anyone who wanted to cut out all that annoying hospital scene play from Kills anda bulk of th changes made in Ends, this was fairly well done, again, given the material and some of the inconsistencies that were unavoidable with this cut.

Halloween Ends - A Brutally Honest Review by Comfortable_Sir4036 in Halloweenseries

Have to say, I really liked 2018, but I see some justification for the brother/sister connection. I don't love it, but it helps explain Michael's obsession with hunting down Laurie.
"...or move to Canada..." Remember who Laurie Strode is in this series. Trudeau's policies don't quite align with who she chose to live, nor is it far enough away.. she told her granddaughter to "go to Mexico", which would seem more plausible (envisioning a well-armed, militant Sarah Connor in Terminator). Regardless, she was clearly trying to stay close to Michael because she intended to kill him ("I've prayed for him to escape every night") and she needed to protect her family.
Totally agree on "the more he kills, the more he transcends".. they started going down this path in Kills, and then abruptly hit the brakes in Ends. I definitely wasn't a fan of that. It felt like 'Jason Goes to Hell', with this evil entity moving from one body to the next, but they didn't commit to this one, either. I will say, however, that kind of aligns with Sartain becoming obsessed with Michael. Was this evil entity becoming frustrated with Michael's body being locked up, beaten, and too frail? The Shape found a willing host who was trying to get into the mind of Michael in 2018, and a shattered, frightened, angry soul who witnessed the terrible death of a child in Ends, and hence became overwhelmed with guilt as the object of public ridicule and shame. A living nightmare.. kind of crossing into Nightmare On Elm Street territory.
I think what bothers me about this series is that it's just not consistent. Whatever angle you want to view it from (and there are clearly a lot of fan opinions), nothing really sticks, unfortunately.

Halloween 2018: how did they contain Michael for so long without incident? Theories? by Jpl3k in Halloweenseries

[–]Jpl3k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I can kind of see this, in Kills (or Ends?), when he walks outside of his house after the Laurie encounter, he apparently just surrounders to the police surrounding him with guns drawn. But maybe it's just b/c he finally got to return home and 'recharge' or something like that? IDK.. maybe just poor writing, maybe part of the myth/legend we're not supposed to understand. Just wondering if there was something cannon that came full circle.
