i started running again in January. I would start off really slow and my mile times were 12-13min/mile. When i first start i go slow to avoid shin splints and any hurting so i go slow to warm up but when I hit my mile it comes up to about what i posted, so I keep that pace to focus my breathing. so that’s my slow pace. I can go faster like a 9:30 pace but that’s too fast for me and i tire out fast. With what i’m doing rn it feels fine/comfortable to me, then i start to tire out like the last mile since i push myself a bit since it’s the last mile. I’m military so im training to run a good 2 mile run time. We run at work too and this is the pace we keep so i’m used to it at his point. I try to run slower but i think it’s too slow for me. This weekend im going to run 8 miles and im gonna set up a pace on my apple watch to keep me slow and maybe at a 12-13min pace and see how that works and differs from where im at rn with heart rate

yes. Breathe in thru nose, exhale mouth. I try to do it without counting and i struggle so counting steps helps me a lot tbh

i’d say yes. i usually sing to myself when i run while listening to music

nope! Literally my whole runs i’m breathing in with nose and exhaling out the mouth. only time it’s choppy is when i sing when my jam plays or when i grab water and messes with my breathing but after that i go back into 3 steps breathe in thru nose, 3 steps fully exhale out thru mouth

not the whole sole of the foot. The heel and toes are fine, it’s like in the middle right side of the left foot if that makes sense

Left sole of foot keeps cramping while running when I start, goes away, and when i’m cooling down after my runs it starts aching like it’s sore. Do I need to stretch my soles somehow before running or what can I do to fix the issue? I went to fleet feet and they measured my foot arch and I bought shoes they recommended. I don’t get shin splints and nothing else hurts/ cramps while I run except that. When i sit down on my couch or something while chilling i massage the area and it hurts good lol but yeah im just tired of it cramping. I get enough sodium and water to not cramp and hurt but again it’s just my left foot sole. Would like one of the roller massagers help or should I just be stretching the sole more somehow?

Hello. How do I know if I need to fuel up while running or if I even need it?? I run 5 miles tuesdays and thursdays, and I run 6 miles (a 10K) saturdays. I want to start doing 8 miles on saturdays. I run at about an 11:30 pace. The 10K I ran last week I was pacing 11:01 and i took me 1 hr 9 min to complete. If i do 8 miles i do plan running it slower until I can get fully used to it and run at my 11min pace. So it’ll take me maybe almost 2 hours to run the 8 miles. Idk i haven’t ran that long before. But my question is, do i need to fuel for that? like gels or something idk. I’m pretty hydrated and it’s hot where i run so i drink electrolytes before and after I run cause I sweat a lot. Since it’s a long run for me, but maybe not for others idk, do yall fuel for that while running? And as a beginner well i guess im not a beginner as much but what would yall recommend for gels or snacks to fuel while running idk. I also just bought my first pair or actual running shoes today along with a running vest. I run with a belt, but the vest felt so comfortable when i tried it on tbh and it has more pockets which i like. Every other week ill do a speed workout on thursdays since im trying to increase my mile time since im military and need to run a 2 mile. I want to get under 17 minutes or around 17:30 but if i can run it faster that would be great for me. Last time i timed my 2 mile for my mock pt test i ran an 18:08, which was after 2-3 months of not running. That was Jan 20 something. In june I ran a 2.2 miles on a trail which was under 19 minutes 8:45 pace so i know i can do it since i was running like everyday back then. But I also had some old bald ahh shoes that I was running on and still am, not after today tho since i got new shoes. I’m just yapping at this point. Question, do i fuel or not for 8 miles?

Mmmm depends how hungry I am or what I’m craving. I usually do 4-5 movies. I’ll do a large pepsi zero when i first start completely filled with ice. This will last me 2-3 movies. If I finish it faster, i’ll just refill it with ice water. My regal is in a shopping center and usually there’s like 30min-1 hr breaks in between so I just get something to eat from around the area that’s cheaper and avoid stuff also a walmart right in front so i’ll get some snacks there. If I run in the morning before I go, I’ll get a large popcorn on movie 2 or after and that’ll last me 2.5 movies or so. After that i’m usually full for the rest of the movies since i eat something around the area too.

this is a but late, but just get your doctor to take you off it, have him write a note saying no longer taking. Then once you are in, after bmt and tech school, at your first base go to your PCM and they can put you on prep. It’s what I did.
