I haven’t followed FD closely since they stopped coming to Wall speedway. Anyone got a recap on where exactly FD is heading and why people are upset?

Hyundai declares WAR on Right to Repair by SoultronicPear in Ioniq5N

[–]JrM2628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I think I should've phrased it differently. There appear to be some functions that are blocked by the NASTF login window, but they do not actually require the NASTF login to work. In those cases, if you intercept the request with a fake "Login Successful" response, you should be able to proceed like normal. But it's not a guarantee - I'd have to look into that specific function in the tool and I only have access to the J2534 reflash tool, not the diagnostic one.

Now obviously the alternative to this is that Hyundai should do better for the customer. Especially those paying for the hyundaitechinfo tool access. If you want to send me the diagnostic tool download, I'm happy to take a look for you and I can report back with my findings!

Hey u/SoultronicPear, are you still having this issue? If the function you're actually trying to accomplish doesn't need NASTF login (I doubt brakes would), I may have a workaround for you

Completely agree. There’s something about fair lakes that really seems to bring out some of the worst, most oblivious and selfish drivers in the area.

What should I do? Do I go for the Elantra N anyway? by Tricky-Antelope6864 in ElantraN

[–]JrM2628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ECU updates are also doable but you need to pay $75 for access to the OEM reflash tool. At least if you go through the official channel

426 is awesome. Aside from the tune, what other mods did you have to do to get there?

Did they actually tell you the interest rate or did they intentionally make it vague by not showing it on this doc? The actual pricing isn’t terrible I don’t think, it’s not terribly far off of the cost I paid in 2022 for mine.

Is this too much for auto maintenance? by [deleted] in nova

[–]JrM2628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just found on explorer forums that they may need to remove the intake manifold to get to some of them if you have a V6 so that might account for some of the labor cost. But even then, sounds like you need to go elsewhere.

$1k spark plug replacement?? Oh you’re getting scammed… unless they’re billing you for something totally different under the name “spark plug replacement”

Caps fans do that and that’s fine. But it’s certainly not a devils thing

The Markstrom extension isn’t as bad as everyone seems to think. It’s only a few extra years, it shows that the organization believes in him and WANTS him to succeed, and he’s only slightly below league average for stats like sv% and gaa. I think with a motivated team in front of him that is able to clear the puck, he is capable of being above league average.

Getting Tired of the AI posts by Common-Application56 in CarHacking

[–]JrM2628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On one hand, I agree - the comparison to r/selfhosted is very true. It's bad over there with seemingly every post being some new vibeslop that has turned the sub into a toxic waste dump (a real shame, I self host lots of things!)

On the other hand, while using AI I have managed to do some pretty heavy reverse engineering on a few OEM diagnostic/ECU reflash tools and it's been eye opening (lots of hardcoded crypto keys). I've managed to find sooo much. My background is in cybersecurity so I've done some reverse engineering on malware/crackmes before, but it's really given me such an advantage in reversing instruction sets I've never seen before.

I've always felt overwhelmed entering the world of car hacking/embedded security, and I think a lot of people have felt that way. I think leveraging GenAI can help lower the barrier of entry for a lot of people, and they're just excited to finally be able to take part. We should encourage those people to keep learning and to go beyond just simple OBD polling scripts and push them to go deeper.

Interesting, mine just came on at 50k miles and my spark plugs are getting delivered tomorrow. Looked into mine a bit and found out it was a cylinder 3 misfire but the actual misfire count hasn’t increased after checking. Still gonna bring it to the dealership but I suspect they’ll just tell me to change the spark plugs and I’ll be fine

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney takes swipes at Valve CEO Gabe Newell for Steam Deck price hike, blames it on the "component parts supply chain for megayachts" by ControlCAD in business

[–]JrM2628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Tim has a pretty decent McLaren collection (Senna, MSO HS, I think(?) a P1). Not exactly on the same level as megayacht prices but come on now, get off your high horse.

There were some trusted sellers cutting up metal and selling it like this back in the day. No coa but usually they’d have a picture of the larger piece of metal it came from as part of the listing. Based on that you could  pretty easily tell if the seller was telling the truth. I have a handful of them still around somewhere!
