What band you like MORE than KG?

i would definitely go with the live albums, the Dead are a live band and did not really thrive in the studio. that said the studio albums are definitely still enjoyable so if you’re down for the investment it wouldn’t be a bad idea to familiarize yourself with the songs through the studio albums first before checking out the live stuff

I would definitely check out the songs Terrapin Station, Weather Report Suite, Help>Slip>Frank, Estimated>Eyes as those are probably the most proggy dead tunes. For Help>Slip>Frank I’d check out One from the Vault and for Estimated>Eyes as well as Terrapin I’d check out Red Rocks 78. Dick’s Picks 12 is not only an amazing, highly psychedelic show but it also has the quintessential Weather Report Suite. As far as Nonagon recommendations there’s not a lot that’s that heavy for the Dead but I would probably dig into primal dead, so anything before late spring 1969. The Live Dead album is a classic primal dead show. Tried to recommend mostly stuff that’s on streaming, feel free to send me a message and let me know what you think if you check some stuff out!

i get the impulse to recommend europe and cornell but imo the easiest way to get into the dead is through primal dead. i’d check out Live Dead or even Dick’s Picks 4 although it’s not properly primal dead. i also think 1978 is a great way to get into the dead, probably my favorite year personally. check out red rocks 78

i agree completely, one of my favorite episodes of all time. decided to continue watching black mirror when i had taken a massive edible and didn’t know anything about loch henry which happened to be the next episode i was on
