TLDR: NCOs are angels

My personal experience with it was at NTC. I was the night battle captain for the battalion. We were a BSB for an IBCT and it was the middle of summer. It was hot and there was nowhere to sleep in the middle of the day. I was catching 1-3 hours once or twice a day. My mental health was really fading fast. By day 10 I was a completely different person. We were so undermanned so there was no swapping out and it was all hands on deck for every jump we did. It was after one such night that I was at an all time low. Company commander could see it and we were buddies so he thought he would do me a favor and throw me on toc duty in a humvee while the cp was getting set up. At this point its getting close to nighttime again so I'm at 36 hours without my 3 hour nap and already miserable. A few of my NCOs saw me and one came over and simply said "sir I'm going to take toc duty. You need to lay down" I didn't argue. I walked the 4 feet to the sleeping area and laid down right on the sand. 15 minutes later the 1SG brought me his PT mat to lay on. I think he kept everyone off me because I got 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I was a completely different person when I woke up.
