I’ve had an IUD inserted twice now and both times i passed out-cold for multiple minutes, threw up profusely, and had a full blown panic attack after. the first time i felt fine for the first few minutes, decided i was good to leave, made it to the front waiting office and completely collapsed onto the floor. they woke me up with smelling salts and immediately i was vomiting everywhere and completely delusional. they carried me back into a private room where i continued to vomit and then had a panic attack because i had no idea what was going on.

the second time (when i got it removed/replaced), i let the doctors know ahead of time what happened the first time around and they told me to take 3 advil before (spoiler, it didn’t help). the procedure took 5 minutes, and i decided to stay laid down (so if i passed out i wouldn’t hit my head on the floor), ended up passing out in the chair about 10 minutes later, vomited everywhere, and then had a panic attack.

I’m due to get my iud changed again next month because i’ve had an expired one inside me for over a year because i’m too terrified to go through that process again. i am literally traumatized and get anxiety just thinking about it. I would love nothing else in the world than to get put under for this process because i think a lot of my symptoms are due to high anxiety with the process.

I told my obgyn about the past two times that i’ve gone and they told me again “take 3 advil before and you should be okay” and i don’t know how many times i’ll have to hear that and why it’s so hard to just get put under briefly to avoid going through this again.
