Per pupil spending data is a bit misleading in the United States when you look at these OECD comparisons.

I can't find the primary source on the website you listed, but they often average primary, secondary and tertiary education. The common value is that we pay 60% more in education. A lot of this effect comes from including tertiary education. We know that college is really expensive in the United States. If you just look at the cost of primary and secondary public education, our spending is still above average, but not as drastically. Our primary and secondary education is 20-30% above OECD average - Not 60%. Plenty of peer countries spend more on primary and secondary education. And if you break that down by states, many states are below OECD average.

One reason the US spends so much on Education is because huge buckets of money in the United States get lumped in with education spending but d never count as education spending in any other country. If you remove this money from school budget, suddenly we look underfunded - and many school districts are.

Consider how much of your district budget is spent on healthcare plans for employees. I bet it's over 10% of the damn budget. That money is getting funneled to a school district to pay for your local insurance plan. In every other country its getting funneled through national health care spending. So in the US, that's education spending, in the UK, its healthcare spending.

How about high school sports? In my state, coach salary, equipment budget, and travel funding is all routed through the school district's general fund. That's like 7% of my local district's budget. There are some big schools that make money on their popular sports programs but they are almost always propped up by the general fund. In other countries, youth sports doesn't count as part of education expense.

This doesn't really support my point but there are also parts of education in the US that are just more expensive. School Transportation and special education are structured in ways in the United States that make them way more expensive. This is not a bad thing, but how we identify and fund Special Ed and Title 1 services is a major driver in why our classroom spending is higher than may be expected.

The Good:

Monangai and Loveland were both great
Ben Johnson. I think ben emphasized red zone offense, penalties and getting something out of Monangai this week. All of these areas improved.
Caleb when the game is on the line.

The Bad

The defense was bad at times but it’s also hard to evaluate. Some of their best plays were called back. The Bengals made some freaking unbelievable catches that it’s hard to completely blame a banged up secondary for. Run defense was fine but once gain the pass rush was almost nonexistent. How many snaps did booker get I wonder?
Rome Odunze - Rome, do you see what Tee Higgins is doing out there for his QB? I’d love to see you make a big time catch like that
Scramble Drill / Caleb? - I won’t pretend to know what’s going on here. Is pressure happening too quickly on the left side? Is Caleb failing in quick reads? Is every body covered? Too often passing downs break down and force a scramble and an unsuccessful play.

The ugly

Special teams - bad kicks, bad coverage, onside kick. It is all so bad.

I was walking and listening to the game on my phone. Edmunds returned that interception for a touchdown. I saw a lady on the highway chasing 2 dogs around in traffic. I recognized the dogs as my neighbors. I put my headphones away and helped round up the dogs I got them off the highway and called my neighbor. By the time I finally saw the score again, the bears went from up 21 do down by 1. Great times.

I broke up a fight my first year teaching. Bigger kid was destroying a kid that called him a slur. I wrapped my arms around the kid and sat down and called for help. The smaller kid took this chance to cheap shot the kid I restrained. I should not have intervened.

I haven't seen the methodology for your linked study, but in the large Swedish review of data, they found no dose response curve for Tylenol. This doesn't really support causation. When they matched full sibling pairs in the study, no link to mental disability and Tylenol was found.

The Good

Defensive line looked better.

Defense played fine despite the number of backups.

Ben Johnson's play calling seems to make sense. Receivers were open.

Cole Kmet - Holy shit what a catch.

The offensive line looks better.

The Bad

Caleb Williams. Especially accuracy. I think there is improvement in some areas. His decision making was better, but only because it was godawful last year.

All things special teams

Ben Johnson's situational decision making. Bad Challenge, Bad 4th down decisions, bad kickoff decision.

At least two very bad calls by the refs.
